What is lip dermopigmentation?

What is lip dermopigmentation?

Coralie Techer

Lip dermopigmentation is also called lipblushing. This innovative semi-permanent makeup technique allows a natural result for redesigned and stunning lips!

Permanent makeup is trendy. Right now, it's the practical solution for having perfect eyebrows and a well-defined mouth. Also called dermopigmentation or lipblushing when it specifically concerns the lips, this technique is provided in institutes by approved practitioners. Not to be confused with lip tattooing (much more radical), it allows you to accentuate the volume of the lips when they appear too thin, to draw a Cupid's bow, to restore symmetry to an imperfect mouth or to color the dermis of the lips when it is a little dull.

How does a lip dermopigmentation session take place?

A lip dermopigmentation session is always performed in a salon by a specialist. To make sure you choose the right salon, don't hesitate to read reviews or get advice from someone who has already done it. Usually, the session begins with a discussion (or filling out a form) to define the client's needs: plump? Redraw? Recolor? Or all at once! It's up to you to choose.

After the needs have been defined, the practitioner moves on to lip mapping, that is to say that she will trace the base with a makeup pencil before passing the dermopigmentation needle. This process is essential, it helps avoid mishandling and errors... It would be a shame to miss a permanent makeup! The outline of the lips is first traced with a needle, followed by the application of an anesthetic cream and the filling of the lips using mineral pigments to provide color. The operation can be painful because the lips are a fragile part. Think about it before taking the plunge, especially since a touch-up session is necessary after 28 days (exactly like microshading or microblading of the eyebrows). This second session will allow the color to be readjusted and/or to go over contours that are too light so that everything is perfect.

How much does a lip dermopigmentation session cost?

As with any aesthetic service, the price of lip dermopigmentation will depend a lot on the institute chosen. On the other hand, prices generally start at €250. You must therefore plan a certain budget and above all be sure of your choice! Do not hesitate to ask for quotes from institutes and check if there are payment facilities.

The advantages and disadvantages

As nothing is ever black or white in life, lip dermopigmentation has its advantages and disadvantages that should be taken into account before taking the plunge at the salon.

The advantages:

  1. The hold. Semi-permanent lip makeup, dermopigmentation or lipblushing can last up to two years! It is an excellent alternative for those who want a pretty mouth without having to put lipstick on it every day. Note that the chosen color can vary from the most natural to the most flashy, from matte to shiny, you can even opt for a color gradient!
  2. Definition. Lipblushing really allows you to redefine the contour of your lips, it's a very good way for those who suffer from complexes to remedy what they don't like and thus reclaim their image.
  3. We avoid injections. It is still a great alternative for people who do not dare or do not want to opt for cosmetic surgery and lip injections . Lipblushing creates the illusion of plumped, rounded, redesigned and colored lips!

The disadvantages:

  1. The session is painful. Much less than a tattoo, of course, because the needle does not penetrate the epidermis as deeply, but the lips remain a very sensitive area of the face.
  2. Lips may be red and swollen for a few hours after the session (the first and the touch-up). It is better to free up your day when planning to do lip dermopigmentation. However, this side effect is minimal and will not last more than a few hours.
  3. If you have skin problems related to the lips, it is better to avoid dermopigmentation. Especially people who regularly suffer from herpes.

How to take care of your lip dermopigmentation?

Once the dermopigmentation is finished (after the second touch-up) you have almost new lips without having gone under the needle of injections. Even if the result is amazing and could lead you to think that the lips no longer need attention, it is quite the opposite. Your lips having undergone an invasive procedure (it is still a needle that colors the entire surface of the lips), in addition to the healing time (with a healing cream) it is important to give them regular care.

Hydration:

You can therefore continue to moisturize your lips regularly. Using a lip balm or an ultra-rich mask to apply at night. Some treatments can accentuate the plump effect for even more glamorous lips! Always choose products with a natural composition, sweet almond oil or shea butter can act as a natural mask.

Scrubs:

Also think about scrubs but always very gentle. To avoid irritating or removing the pigments inserted under the skin, do very light sugar scrubs to allow the lips to renew the skin without damage.
