Eyebrow Tinting: What You Need to Know

Eyebrow Tinting: What You Need to Know

Coralie Techer

For top eyebrows, they need to be clean, full and pigmented! Eyebrow tinting is ideal for achieving this result without going through microblading. We tell you everything about this beauty technique.

It is not new, yet this beauty technique (so practical) is increasingly talked about at the moment. It must be said that in recent years, the care and interest given to our eyebrows has only grown! We are finally becoming aware that it is an essential element for the aesthetic harmony of our face. Inevitably, maintenance and beautification techniques continue to flourish or simply resurface.

As for dyeing, it's not really new, it's been around for a long time and has long been practiced with henna... but we can say that the process is now more innovative and more reliable in terms of results and longevity of hold. Its goal? To restore density to sparse and (or) too light eyebrows, by dyeing the hairs to give them more intensity but above all a natural eyebrow effect. For an optimal result, don't hesitate to bet on the application of an eyebrow serum ! The latter acts in addition to the dye for perfect eyebrows in the long term.

How to make eyebrow tint?

Eyebrow tinting is a procedure similar to permanent makeup but it is a temporary coloring. It is absolutely not painful and rather quick! Eyebrow tinting is generally done in a salon by an approved professional, especially for the first time. It is applied to all types of eyebrows and intensifies the look in a sublime and aesthetic way. As you might expect, eyebrow tinting must be done seriously and expertly, eyebrows are still a central element of the face, it would be a shame to miss the application and end up with a failed dye or worse... If the products used are not suitable, this could lead to hair loss or more or less serious skin reactions. Also watch out for allergic reactions, do not hesitate to test the dye on a piece of skin to make sure.

How does salon dyeing work?

As with any action on the face, the practitioner will establish a diagnosis: are there any allergies? What are the needs, what color to apply to the eyebrows according to the hair color for a totally natural effect... After her diagnosis and before moving on to coloring, the specialist will first proceed to eyebrow hair removal, this step is important to define the line and avoid overflows.

The dye is then applied using an angled brush, it is stretched from the inside of the eyebrow to the outside in order to draw a pretty curve at the level of the eyebrow arch. The coloring lasts about a month (or more) and is resistant to makeup removal, oil, heat, sweat and any external aggressions that could alter its result.

Eyebrow tinting at home

In addition to the institute, it is possible to do your own dyeing using a kit at home. As previously mentioned, it is still preferable to use the expertise of a professional for the first time. This is also an opportunity to ask for advice if you plan to do your next eyebrow coloring at home. How does it work exactly? Using a complete kit (always check the reliability of the brand and the ingredients that make up the dye!), containing the dye and the application accessories, we carefully follow the instructions step by step.

Precautions to take for home dyeing

Perform an allergy test: Before applying the tint to your eyebrows, perform an allergy test on a small area of skin, such as the inside of your wrist. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the recommended allergy test. This will check if you have an adverse reaction to the tint. Wait at least 24 hours to observe any allergic reactions before applying the tint to your eyebrows.

Read the instructions carefully: Before beginning the dyeing process, carefully read the instructions that came with the dye kit. Make sure you understand the steps to follow and the recommended processing times.

Choose the right shade: Select a tint shade that is close to your natural eyebrow color to achieve a more natural look. Avoid choosing a shade that is too dark, which could give an artificial result.

Prepare your skin and brows: Make sure your brows are clean and free of makeup or skin care products. You can cleanse your brows with a gentle makeup remover. Avoid applying moisturizing creams or lotions before tinting, as this can affect the adhesion of the dye.

Protect your skin: Use a protective barrier to prevent the dye from staining your skin. You can apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or a greasy cream around your eyebrows to create a protective barrier. This will help prevent the dye from soaking into the skin and creating unwanted stains.

Apply with precision: Use a fine brush or brush provided in the tint kit to apply the tint precisely to your eyebrows. Be careful not to go beyond the edges of the eyebrows to avoid dyeing the skin.

Respect the processing time: Follow the instructions provided with the dye kit for the recommended processing time. Do not leave the dye in longer than recommended, as this can result in unwanted over-dyeing.

Remove the dye carefully: Once the processing time is over, remove the dye using a damp cotton pad or clean sponge. Make sure to rinse your brows thoroughly to remove all traces of dye.

Did you know? It is possible to dye your eyebrows in a completely natural way using cocoa powder (organic and 100% natural) mixed with coconut oil (to fix the pigments). These two ingredients also act as a treatment since the oil will strengthen the hairs and the cocoa will nicely cover the hairs with its brown tint and protect them.

The Pros and Cons of Eyebrow Tinting

While eyebrow tinting is a good way to restore density and intensity to your eyes, you should know that it has some disadvantages in addition to its advantages.

The advantages

Dyeing or coloring your eyebrows allows you to have fuller and more intense lines without having to go through the makeup box every morning. This instantly adds intensity to the look and frames the overall harmony of the face. Dyes can be synthetic or natural and therefore adapt to skin types. Eyebrow dyeing is not permanent, it is also a good way to give yourself a brief preview of the shape of the eyebrows you want before a more definitive result like microblading or microshading!

The disadvantages

Eyebrow tint must absolutely be applied well, since it is a coloring if it is applied crookedly without being corrected in time, the traces in the long term can make... mess! This is why it is recommended to call on an expert for the first applications. The other disadvantage is its semi-permanent aspect which lasts about a month, the tint requires monthly touch-ups! It can have a certain cost over the year and above all it requires freeing up time, something that we do not always have.

The good tip: to further enhance your look, take care of the entire area around your eyes! How? By carefully applying a serum for dark circles morning and evening! Having beautiful eyebrows plays a big part, but having a fresh and radiant look is even better.

How often should you renew your dye?

How often you should re-tint your eyebrows depends on several factors, such as how quickly your eyebrows grow back, your personal preference, and the look you want. Typically, eyebrow tinting lasts two to four weeks and should be re-tinted accordingly.

It is important to exercise caution when tinting your eyebrows frequently, as it can potentially cause damage or unwanted over-coloring. If you are unsure about how often you should re-tint your eyebrows, be sure to consult a qualified brow professional or esthetician for personalized advice!
