Like all parts of the body, lips also need to be pampered. As a particularly fragile part of the face, the skin on the lips is thin and needs careful attention, particularly to get rid of dead skin and avoid chapped lips!

Lips are subject to the aggression of various external factors. Cold, wind, air and even the sun all contribute to drying out our lips, causing all kinds of discomfort, including chapping. The skin is made up of several layers: the hypodermis, the dermis and the epidermis. This last layer, known as the superficial layer, is the one you see. To protect itself from external aggressions (which are legion and constant), the epidermis is formed of a hydrolipidic film, largely produced by the sebaceous glands. It also produces melanin to prevent sunburn. It's this melanin that allows the skin to tan, rather than bake, on contact with UV rays! The thin skin of our lips is different: the epidermis contains no sebaceous glands and no melanocytes. As a result, this area of the face is highly exposed and therefore fragile. That's why it's important to follow an assiduous skincare routine, to preserve, nourish and moisturize them in all seasons.

LIP EXFOLIATION, A BEAUTY GESTURE TO BE ADOPTED AS A MATTER OF URGENCY
Exposure to climate change, dust, sunlight, make-up and countless other stresses can cause lips to dry out, dull and lose their radiance.
The best thing to do is to start exfoliating at least twice a week, and there are many products on the market to make this task easier. But it's also possible to do it at home with products from the cupboard. All you need is some sugar and honey, then gently massage your lips to remove any dead skin and rinse. And that's it!
A GOOD RECIPE FOR HOMEMADE SCRUB :
- You'll need: baking soda and a little water. Mix to a slightly grainy paste.
- How to use: We recommend you leave the recipe on your lips for a few minutes, then use a toothbrush (with soft bristles) or your fingers to make small circular movements. Rinse with clean water.

The second recipe that can be very effective is a homemade balm based on olive oil and beeswax.
- Necessary: One teaspoon cold-pressed olive oil. One teaspoon beeswax. A few drops of mineral water.
- En pratique : Commencer par faire fondre la cire d'abeille au bain-marie, puis rajouter le reste des ingrédients. Remuer doucement jusqu'à l’obtention d’un mélange homogène, puis verser le tout dans un pot au préalable stérilisé. Attendre que le mélange refroidisse (attention aux brûlures). C'est prêt !
DON'T FORGET SUN PROTECTION:
And yes, there are sun protectors for the lips, and it's even highly recommended to use them! Prolonged exposure to the sun can aggravate dry lips. It's important to always use an anti-uv lip balm with at least SPF 30. Our lips are equipped with numerous nerve endings. Sunburn is therefore extremely painful in this area. But worst of all, sunburn can cause herpes labialis... Always take care to apply lip balm regularly. In summer, or in the mountains in winter, apply it every hour!

WHICH LIPSTICKS TO CHOOSE FOR SOFT, MOISTURIZED LIPS?
Lipstick is a beauty must-have for the modern woman. - For white skin, we prefer lipsticks in bright or dark shades to accentuate the complexion.
- Darker skins will prefer very bright, orangey reds to enhance naturally tanned complexions.
- Dark-skinned women can choose intense lipsticks.
- Porcelain skins, on the other hand, prefer cool, nude tones. Although a deep red can be devilishly elegant.
WHICH INGREDIENTS ARE BEST FOR LIP BALM?
To ensure the effectiveness of your lip balm, it's essential to take the time to analyze its composition. We prefer those with moisturizing agents such as shea butter, jojoba oil or honey. These (natural) active ingredients provide deep hydration. An effective lip balm should also contain a repairing agent, such as aloe vera, to ensure overall lip health.

WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD I AVOID?
Some ingredients are harmful... Absolutely to be avoided for the well-being of our lips. Among the forbidden are mineral oils, which maintain optimal hydration but tend to prevent lips from breathing. It's also a good idea to watch out for the presence of essential oils, which can irritate. Of course, we avoid all paraben- and silicone-based products.

- Don't moisten your lips with your tongue... It's tempting when they feel dry, but it has the opposite effect!
