How to remove make-up Our advice

How to remove make-up Our advice

Coralie Techer

Micellar water, oils, two-phase solutions, butters, creams... By hand or with a make-up remover wipe? Before bed or in the morning? To make sure you're using the right absorbent cotton, here are a few tips on how not to miss your make-up removal moment.

In the world of beauty, there's one rule that everyone must respect: removing make-up properly. But why? We all know it, more or less, but it's worth remembering.

Why is it important to remove make-up?

  • First of all, it's definitely not pleasant to go to bed with a nest of bacteria on your skin. Removing your makeup, an essential step in your beauty routine, allows your skin to free itself from the layer of dirt accumulated throughout the day and trapped in the particles of your makeup. It's important to know that at night, your skin renews itself while you sleep. Your pores open as much as possible to allow your skin to breathe. It absorbs absolutely everything on its surface (which is why it's recommended to apply your skincare at night).
  • Secondly, the makeup removal phase allows you to act as a treatment depending on the makeup remover chosen and adapted to your skin type.
  • Third, there's nothing more satisfying after a long, hard day! Makeup removal is also a moment just for you. You can make it a real relaxing ritual with music, small candles or incense. You can take advantage of it to do your facial massage , with a makeup remover oil or butter that you apply with your fingers in circular movements.

How to choose the right make-up remover?

There are lots of make-up removers. From micellar water (slightly aggressive for sensitive skin) to cleansing butters and vegetable oils. The best thing is to choose the one that best suits your skin type. Combination, oily or dry? Diagnose your skin type and choose the most effective make-up remover. Each skin type has its own.

Cleansing oils are excellent for removing make-up in an eco-responsible way, without risking damaging the skin, whatever its type. They still suffer from the nasty prejudice that they are unsuitable for combination to oily skin, but nonsense! Vegetable oil (cold-pressed), when properly cleansed with a neutral soap (such as Aleppo soap), leaves no oily finish, acts as a moisturizer and even solves impurity problems(jojoba oil works miracles). Be careful, however, when choosing your cleansing oil. Avocado oil, for example, is a little too rich and should be avoided by oily skin with problems, but is perfect for dry skin.

Make-up remover butters are the solution for those who want to carry their make-up remover with them. Ideal for slipping into a handbag, they can be applied with the fingers(after cleansing) to a damp face, and are extremely effective at removing even the most stubborn make-up residue. There's no longer any excuse for missing out on make-up removal, even when you're out for the night! The cleansing butter is even suitable for oily skin types.

The make-up remover glove is the "magic" feature of this selection. We dreamed of it, and the beauty industry has made it a reality: a glove that requires no make-up remover and can be reused at will. How does it work? Made from a microfibre fabric that catches even the smallest particles of make-up and dirt, all you have to do to use it is dampen it. Gentle enough to avoid damaging the skin! It's a zero-waste, eco-responsible and practical guarantee.

Emulsions instantly purify the skin! As well as being fun to use (they generally consist of an oil that foams on contact with water), make-up-removing emulsions are gentle on the skin, leaving a silky feel and deep cleansing. Apply with a make-up remover wipe (reusable), your fingers or your cleansing brush.

The right gestures to adopt when removing make-up

Perfect makeup removal is a ritual that requires you to follow a few simple steps to get it right!

Start with the eyes

This is the most delicate part of the face. Removing eye make-up requires special attention. Especially as they are often loaded with make-up, between the different layers of eyeshadow, liner or even waterproof mascara, we're tempted to go for the karcher... But absolutely not! We proceed gently and with an appropriate solution. Oils are perfect because they're gentle and natural, not to mention easy to apply with the fingers to avoid irritation around the eyes.

Ne pas oublier la bouche

The mouth is probably the part of the face we least think about removing make-up... And yet! In demand all day long, it deserves to be pampered. Depending on the type of lipstick applied, we choose a gentle make-up remover such as butter or milk, to remove the last traces of red on the lips. If you're dealing with stubborn lip ink (the tattoo effect is great at mealtimes, but quickly becomes a nuisance in the evening), opt for oil, the radical solution!

Taking it easy

Although less fragile than the eye area, facial skin is generally sensitive. Easily prone to irritation if rubbed a little too hard, it can also wrinkle prematurely from repeated rubbing... When you opt for a wipe, soaked cotton pad or make-up remover glove, you need to be extra vigilant to ensure that every gesture is carried out gently. A real surgeon's job!

On conclut par un bon nettoyage

No, make-up removal is not cleansing in itself. After this step, it's important to cleanse the face either with neutral soap, or with a dermatologically-adapted gel or lotion, to remove stubborn dirt residues and, above all, to remove make-up remover from the skin. No matter what type of make-up remover you use (even with a glove), the cleansing step is a must!

Toning up

Now that the skin is fresh and ready for the night, we perfect the make-up removal moment by spraying the skin with floral water or tonic lotion. Packed with benefits for the skin, floral water (or hydrolat) clarifies the complexion, helps cell regeneration, soothes and moisturizes the skin. It's the ideal conclusion to a well-preserved skin.

Finish with the application of your face care routine. For pampered, radiant skin in the morning, don't forget to apply your face serum, eye contour serum and night cream!
