10 make-up trends for a summer makeover

10 make-up trends for a summer makeover

Coralie Techer

It's summer, and like every year, beauty trends are emerging, some more eye-catching than others. Let's take a closer look at seven make-up trends to give yourself a little beauty makeover under the July sun.

It's sunny, it's hot (well, depending on the weather), and it's the perfect time to rethink your makeup routine! Of course, in summer we're free to let our skin breathe and take full advantage of the vitamin C provided by our good old sun. But if we're in the mood for a little make-up, for an evening out or just to shine on the terrace with a glass of chilled spritz in hand, then the latest trends may be just what we're looking for.

1 - A fresh, luminous complexion

It's a trend that never goes out of fashion. A fresh, luminous complexion is the king of summer. This summer, it's time to leave caky foundations in the closet: in summer, the less you use, the better! Skin needs to breathe. But there's no reason why you can't give it a boost and let it shine with a perfect glow.

  • How to achieve the glowy effect? We start with a careful base. We always make sure to moisturize our skin before sleeping and especially before applying makeup. After having rubbed in our skincare products with a little facial massage, we move on to the complexion. We opt for light materials with a CC Cream or simply a tinted cream . A small revolution that combines moisturizing care and foundation pigments! The finish is light and totally natural . We don't overload it, so we avoid all kinds of powders and concealer, we can finish with a simple makeup fixer.

2 - A gourmet but light mouth

In winter, red is all the rage, but in summer, we prefer to keep our mouths light and sparkling. The long-criticized lip gloss is back in the spotlight. Formulated in a much less dense way, we find it moisturized to combine beauty and comfort in a single brushstroke, or tinted to adapt to the pH of the lips and offer us the color of our dreams.

  • How to wear lip gloss? You can't really draw a picture of it; lip gloss goes with just about everything! So to wear it, simply wear it. A few small adjustments here and there; the hardest part will be choosing which one to wear!

3 - Ochre and orange tones galore

It's true: orange puts you in a good mood! In summer homes, it's not uncommon to find orange to ochre tones adorning walls, accessories and linens. The restful effect of this monochrome is to calm the mind, while adding a touch of brightness that we've missed so much after all those winter months. There's no shortage of make-up palettes for adopting this trend in beauty. Matte or iridescent blush, cream blush, liner or powder, we play with materials and tones to create the perfect summer make-up look.

  • How to embrace the orange trend? On the eyes, we dare to go for flashy orange, but in a glowy way. With a cream eyeshadow, apply the orange color all over the eyelid, blending it in to avoid a cakey effect. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even have fun with a powdery orange eyeshadow that veers toward pink and iridescent hues for a truly sunny look. Another trick: keep it simple with an orange liner. Without eyeshadow on the eyelids, just a single line above the eye, and voilà, you're done.

4 - Blush, you want some!

If there's one product that will never leave the beauty industry's radar, it's this one. The blush that looks good, sparkles and delights! We like it powdery, creamy and even liquid. It can be applied to the cheeks, but not just on the cheeks. This summer, why not dare to apply it to the tip of your nose? For a radiant complexion, right in line with the "blush-drapping" trend (contouring with blush!).

  • How to adopt blush in summer 2021 style? Come on, let's take a little lesson in blush-draping to stay right on top of the trend loved by the stars this summer 2021. Blush-draping, as seen above, could be similar to contouring. Very popular in the 70s (we didn't invent anything), it involves blushing your cheeks from the cheekbone to the temples and adding a light touch of blush to the bridge of the nose. You get a lighter, more refined, lighter, and natural contour! A bit more chic, it's the ideal trick to hit the mark at a party or garden party.

5 - Color-blocking, again and again... but sparingly

We love color. It's the very sign of summer! So, of course, we have no problem including it in our make-up. On the lips or eyes, we opt for colors that are full of pep. Electric blue, peppy pink and even yellow, after the crazy year we've had, a little color certainly won't hurt anyone.

  • How to embrace the color-blocking trend without going overboard? Always keep things in moderation—that's the adage to remember when playing with color. Enjoy yourself, but keep it realistic. For the eyes, you can opt for a super-strong color, but in this case, play with a slightly lighter color for the lips. And vice versa works, too.

6 - The sunkissed effect, for a sun-kissed complexion

For those who aren't really into glowy complexions, we have a rather interesting alternative. Sunkissed! As its name suggests, this make-up look is reminiscent of a gentle sunburn, just what you need to give a not-so-fresh complexion some color and pizzazz. A sun-kissed, radiant complexion? We definitely say yes.

  • How to adopt the Sunkissed trend? After evening out the skin with light coverage (CC cream or tinted cream), We redden the cheekbones, without overdoing it but still using enough to make it visible. Afterwards, we apply a light veil of bronzing powder in five steps (forehead, temples, jawline, tip of the nose and top of the cheekbones) to structure the face and give it a golden tan. Note that cream bronzer will have a lighter appearance than powder bronzer.

7 - Marked eyebrows

Structured or bushy, eyebrows are the trend. This summer is no exception! Eyebrows are two extremely important elements in the structure of the face. If they're botched, it's often a disaster... Fortunately, there are now solutions for everything, and it's now virtually impossible to botch your eyebrow line!

  • How to adopt the defined eyebrow trend? You may already have full eyebrows, and then you're one of the lucky ones in this life. Otherwise, makeup can be a big help! With a pencil or brush, applying eyebrow makeup can be very easy when you've got the hang of it. To do it right, brush your eyebrows downward, then apply your pencil or brush, following your original line to fill in any empty areas! Put the hairs back in place with the brush, apply a fixative, and voilà, full eyebrows in no time. There's a more radical and long-lasting solution: microbalding. This permanent makeup technique creates the illusion of small hairs using a microneedle and makeup pigments. If properly maintained (with one touch-up per year), microbalding can last for three years!
