How to reshape eyebrows with holes?

How to reshape eyebrows with holes?

Coralie Techer

Thick eyebrows are all the rage. But it's not always easy to maintain a thick, full brow line, especially when you've got a less-than-generous base. Fortunately, there are solutions to remedy this, and we tell you all about them!

Thicker, darker, fuller... Who hasn't dreamed of wearing the eyebrows of the iconic Audrey Hepburn? For a long time, the fashion trend was for almost non-existent hair, but today it's quite the opposite. When you've spent a good part of your life plucking your eyebrows to excess, it's inevitably difficult to regain a perfectly full line. The more you pluck, the less it grows!

How do I fill in sparse eyebrows?

Sparse eyebrows are the result of a variety of causes. The main one is often heredity. Some women have naturally thin, sparse eyebrows. They are born that way, and it becomes more difficult to get around this heredity.

Over-plucking is also a major cause of thinning eyebrows. Constantly plucking hairs from the brow bone weakens the muscle cells and slows down the stimulation of growth! In some cases, the hairs are pulled out along with the bulbs, which is why they no longer grow back. Scarring, poor diet, disease and chemotherapy can also alter the growth of our eyebrows, making them more fragile.

Le maquillage semi-permanent, façon dermopigmentation

Semi-permanent eyebrow make-up is a good solution to the problem of sparse eyebrows. This quasi-surgical technique involves "tattooing" the eyebrow to give it substance and thickness. Plucked areas are then filled in by pigment applied under the first layer of skin. With the dermopigmentation technique, the specialist redraws a straight, full line using a small electric device! Please note that existing hair is preserved, and that this is not a definitive hair removal procedure, nor a definitive tattoo. The tattoo then looks totally natural!

The staying power of this semi-permanent make-up depends on the amount of pigment applied, as well as on skin type. This technique is an excellent way to fill in gaps in the eyebrows while waiting for them to grow back, or even to replace their regrowth! If you've undergone chemotherapy, it's the ideal way to regain your figure.

Good to know: it's advisable to wait at least 6 months before touching up, to allow your eyebrows to adjust and the skin to heal properly.

Microblading, another form of semi-permanent

Microblading can be likened to dermal pigmentation. But the process is slightly different. It's also carried out by a professional, with the aim of making eyebrows look fuller and more showy. How does it work? The specialist makes tiny feather-like strokes on the eyebrows and in the lighter areas to fill in the line. The tiny hatchings are made with a mini scalpel, which deposits the pigment beneath the surface of the skin. If correctly applied microblading can be visible for up to 30 months. But don't be faint-hearted: microblading is painful.

Good old-fashioned make-up

If you're not into semi-permanent techniques, there's always the good old make-up pencil. Admittedly, it requires more work and a certain dexterity, but it's just as effective!

To fill in the gaps in your eyebrows and give them a better look, an eyebrow pencil is the essential accessory. Here's how to use it:

  • Use an eyebrow pencil that matches your skin tone.
  • For a natural effect, hatch rather than draw the line.
  • Eyebrow chopping adds structure and soft volume.
  • Blur overdone lines with a powder.

Microshading

Like its cousin microbladingmicroshadingfills in holes in the eyebrow and makes them fuller. This technique differs from microblading in its results. With microblading, the result is similar to make-up rather than real eyebrows. In fact, this microblading method reproduces the appearance of make-up, so the look of false eyebrows is much more visible. This technique lasts from 3 to 6 months, and is much less tenacious than microblading, but perhaps less painful and less expensive.

Eyebrow transplantation, a radical method

Brow grafting introduces hair follicles under the skin. The idea is to remove hair from viable follicles on the head and graft them onto the eyebrows. This is a medical technique, usually prescribed by a dermatologist or surgeon.

Note that this eyebrow transplant procedure can be very costly, and also requires a long recovery time. The risks of serious side effects and infections are also very high... So it's a decision you need to think about carefully!
