How do I take care of my scalp?

How do I take care of my scalp?

Coralie Techer

The scalp is the foundation of healthy hair. Taking care of it is essential. But how do you do it properly? We explain.

The scalp is often neglected in our hair care routines, and that's a shame... Why? Because the scalp is the very foundation of strong, healthy hair, and caring for it should be a priority for all those who aspire to radiant hair. Here's our little guide to help you pamper this often overlooked area.

The (real) role of your scalp

The scalp, or scalp as it's also known, is more than just a piece of skin that covers the top of the head. It plays a much broader and, above all, very important role in our bodies.

1. The protector

The scalp protects the skull from external aggressors. It acts as a natural barrier against UV rays, light shocks and other environmental irritants.

2. The thermoregulator

It helps regulate body temperature by insulating the head and preserving heat in cold weather. In hot weather, it can help dissipate heat to maintain a balanced body temperature.

3. Essential support for hair follicles

Hair follicles, nestled in the scalp, are the structures responsible for hair growth. The scalp provides the support necessary for hair growth, full health and strength.

4. A natural lubricant

The scalp's main role is to produce sebum. This natural substance moisturizes and lubricates the hair to keep it healthy. It is necessary to protect the hair from damage caused by dryness, but if there is too much sebum, it can also over-grease the hair and require appropriate care.

5. An actor promoting good blood circulation

A healthy scalp promotes good blood circulation. Proper circulation brings essential nutrients to the hair follicles, promoting healthy hair growth.

6. A sensory receptor

The scalp is rich in nerve endings, making it an important sensory zone. That's why scalp massage can be a truly relaxing and soothing experience.

7. A host of microbiome balance:

It's home to an ecosystem of bacteria and yeasts that make up the scalp microbiome. A healthy balance of the microbiome helps maintain scalp health.

As you can see, taking care of your scalp is an absolutely essential part of your routine, not only to keep your hair healthy, but also to support its vital functions. A healthy scalp promotes strong, shiny hair that resists external aggression, and contributes to overall well-being.

A special scalp routine to put in place

Now that you know how important it is to take care of your scalp, we suggest you apply these steps to create the perfect scalp pampering routine.

Shampoo: We start by choosing a good shampoo, preferably mild and obviously adapted to your scalp type: oily, mixed, dry, sensitive or neutral.

Massage: your best ally. Massage is an essential part of scalp care. Not only does it immediately relax the nervous system, it also boosts blood circulation at this level, helping to deliver nutrients to the hair follicles. How to massage your scalp Gently massage your scalp with your fingertips or a soft bristle brush, using circular movements to maximize the effects.

Regular exfoliation: Gentle exfoliation of the scalp can be beneficial in removing dead skin cells and hair product residues. Use a specific scalp scrub once or twice a month to keep your scalp clean.

Appropriate moisturizing: choose a scalp-specific conditioner or moisturizing mask if you tend to have dry skin. For oily scalps, opt for lightweight products that moisturize without weighing down the skin. Moisturizing masks are easy to make

Goodbye harsh products: Avoid hair care products containing harsh ingredients such as sulfates, parabens and silicones. Instead, opt for gentle, natural formulas that respect the balance of the scalp.

Balanced diet and hydration: A healthy, balanced diet, rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, contributes to scalp health. Drink enough water to maintain optimal hydration.

Good stress management: Stress can affect scalp health and hair growth. Practice stress management techniques such as meditation, yoga or relaxing activities to promote a healthy scalp.

@juliegreencare Definitely include this in your routine! 🌿 Asian countries have long understood that hair health starts with the scalp. A healthy scalp = healthy hair. With care, pollution and other external aggressions, your scalp also needs to breathe and reset :) The scrub will deeply unclog all impurities and activate growth by promoting micro-blood circulation. Include this in your routine once a month! #hairscrub #haircare #homemadehaircare #naturalhaircare ♬ Yes To Heaven Speed - DJ mesquazy
