How can I effectively care for my eye area?

How can I effectively care for my eye area?

Coralie Techer

Very fragile, the eye contour area requires regular care, starting at age 25. What should you do? Which routine to choose? Here's our advice on how to keep your eyes looking fresh and sparkling, whatever the situation!

Why take care of your eye area?

The skin around the eyes is three times thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the face. It's an area that's naturally exposed to numerous external aggressions. Not to mention that it marks very easily, so repeated eye wrinkling soon results in fine lines at the outer corner of the eye... Lack of skin hydration (both external and internal) and genetics also play their part in the loss of epidermal elasticity and the appearance of early wrinkles.

The first thing to do in these cases is obviously to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Not least by controlling your diet! It's best to opt for a diet rich in fiber, fruit and vegetables, which provides the body with the hydration it needs. Of course, don't forget to drink lots and lots of water! To make things more interesting, you can opt for detox waters or herbal teas.

Rule number 1: always remove make-up before bedtime

This is IMPORTANT. Make-up removal should never be skipped! Regardless of age. We know how tempting it can be to run straight to bed after a good night out, but neglecting this step in your skincare routine can be fatal for your skin! Here's a tip: if you opt for waterproof mascara or creamy eyeshadow on the upper eyelid, avoid rubbing the area at all costs! Make-up removal is always gentle. The easiest way is to soak your make-up remover wipe (or your fingertips if you're removing make-up with oil) in make-up remover, then leave it for a few seconds on the stubborn area you wish to remove. For the sake of the eyes, be sure to use a suitable make-up remover (oil remains the best solution), bearing in mind that this is a very sensitive area.

Rule number 2: moisturize, the key to luminous eyes

Rule number 3: don't forget sun protection

The eye contour is a fragile area, as the skin is much thinner than the rest of the body. This is one of the main reasons why it requires special care.

For years now, people have been advised to apply sun protection to their face (even when they're not going to the beach). As the eye contour area is particularly sensitive, it's best to use a suitable protection. There are skincare products with light, fluid textures that are better suited to this area of the face. How best to apply? Lightly pat the eye contour area, just as you would with a normal eye contour product. Repeat as many times as necessary throughout the day. For optimum protection, don't forget your sunglasses. This fashion accessory also has a beneficial effect on our beauty and health, which is all the more reason to go for it. For optimum protection of the eye contour, sunglasses should be perfectly adapted to the contours of the face, especially between the corner of the eye and the eyebrow. An optical specialist will be able to advise you perfectly.

Rule number 4: always ensure a perfect night's sleep

The quality of our sleep has an impact on our well-being and beauty. It's no secret that a good night's sleep brings fresh, sparkling eyes. A poor night's sleep, on the other hand, will only bring fatigue, dark circles, puffiness and sometimes even deeper problems. For a good night's sleep, adults are advised to sleep between 7 and 8 hours a night. Obviously, we're all different, so the best thing is to listen to your body, fall asleep when you feel the need (if possible) and wake up naturally. To complete this wellness routine, there are also some good skincare methods.

Reduce dark circles

Dark circles are caused either by a circulatory factor (i.e. poor blood circulation) or by a pigmentary factor, especially in darker-skinned people who tend to have darker circles. The problem may therefore be genetic or brought on by fatigue.

Focus on cold

Cold is well known for stimulating blood circulation. It has the effect of decongesting dark circles. Here's a quick and easy tip from Grandma: place two teaspoons in the fridge for a few hours. Once the spoons are well chilled, place them on the eyes for 5 to 10 minutes. The trick also works with an ice cube rolled up in a cloth or soft wipe. Slide it under the eye from the outer corner to the outer corner and repeat as many times as necessary. Tips to apply as soon as you wake up!

How to reduce puffiness?

Bags under the eyes are caused by impaired circulation, alcohol abuse, poor eating habits, certain medical treatments, thyroid disorders, smoking and the list goes on. In fact, it's an accumulation of fat or organic waste under the eyes. There are natural solutions to get rid of them, or at least reduce them.

Cucumber slices

Cucumber is renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties, which help relieve eye congestion. It helps reduce puffiness. How to use? Place two slices of cucumber in the fridge for around 25 minutes. Then place them on each eye for around 15 minutes (more if you have the time and patience). The result may be immediate, but not always, in which case you can repeat the operation several times a week.

The potato

Potatoes are rich in vitamins and minerals that help puffiness to subside. Simply cut two slices, place them on the eyes and concentrate on the area to be decongested. As with cucumber, to ensure their effectiveness, we recommend placing the potato slices in the fridge, then putting them on for 10 minutes before gently massaging them into the bags.

Cosmetic solutions

How to apply an anti-dark circle and puffiness contour treatment

To combine business with pleasure, opt for an eye contour serum containing hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid holds water in the deepest areas of the skin, moisturizing it more deeply. In fact, the application of an eye serum is ideal for minimizing dark circles and promoting blood circulation. It also prevents the premature appearance of fine lines. Apply gently, dabbing the material from the inner to the outer corner of the eye.

Bonus: the beauty of the eyes lies in the lashes

For even more beautiful eyes, apply our Lash Serum, a biotin-based treatment that helps repair hair fibers deep down, for lashes that appear denser, thicker and fortified.
