The right tips for fresh, tired-looking eyes

The right tips for fresh, tired-looking eyes

Coralie Techer

Lack of sleep, stress and even a polluted environment can quickly alter the freshness of not only our complexion but also our eyes... Puffiness, dark circles or fine lines, to say bye bye to them, discover our good tips!

1/ Moisturize, again and again

Hydration is the key word in beauty. The magic formula that has the answer to everything. Moisturizing your skin means nourishing it, and nourishing it means making it stronger. This is especially true for the eyes, an organ that's in constant demand 24/7. We flutter our eyelids at a rate of 15 times a minute (minimum), and the muscles around our eyes are constantly active due to our expressions... Naturally, this part of the face never rests. Nourished, the skin around the eyes will be more supple and more likely to avoid (or at least delay) skin ageing, fine lines, loss of elasticity and the depigmentation of dark circles. In the morning or before bed, remember to moisturize! With a cold-pressed vegetable oil (jojoba, avocado, hemp or borage), a serum or a contour cream recommended to you in advance by a parapharmacist, beauty salon or perfumery. And of course, good skin hydration also involves water... At a rate of one to two liters a day to see concrete effects.

2 / Cold, a precious ally

Say thank you to the inventor of the refrigerator. As well as ensuring optimal preservation of our foodstuffs, it also boosts the active ingredients in some of our cosmetics, thereby enhancing our beauty. For guaranteed effectiveness, we create a small space in the fridge door for creams, skincare products and eye serums (or even face serums). Another tip, well known but always worth remembering, is the cold spoon. In the evening, before going to bed, place two spoonfuls in the fridge. When you wake up after cleansing your face properly, place a spoon on each eye. Cold metal acts instantly as a decongestant for puffy eyes, as it reactivates blood circulation. Think smart: put two slices of cucumber (naturally refreshing and full of water) in the freezer, pause for two minutes after a restless night, and your eyes will look totally refreshed and revitalized!

3 / Three makeup tips to banish dull complexions

No matter how much it may seem like "make-believe", make-up has a way of saving the day when even skincare products can't help! After a sleepless night, no matter how many refreshing creams you slather on your face, your complexion isn't likely to magically brighten up. Fortunately, make-up exists, and so do the right tips:
  • Wake up your complexion. After applying a moisturizing base (it's still essential), spread a light complexion unifier like a BB or CC cream using a brush or a blender-type sponge. Above all, forget about overly covering baking-type foundation... Tired skin shows signs of ageing much more easily! To complete the complexion enhancement, add a touch of corrector (or concealer) to the dark circles and finish with a light veil of highlighter and blush.
  • Brighten up your eyes. Opt for a nude or slightly pearly eyeshadow that you'll apply to your entire eyelid. Preferably a creamy texture so it looks "natural" on the eyelid. Don't forget a touch of mascara, stretching your lashes toward the outer corners to make your eyes look as big as possible!
  • Bet on a luscious smile. A light gaze, a sunny face, and a passionate mouth! A beautiful, sparkling pink or a deep red can quickly distract from tired eyes.

4 / Eye Gym to reactivate the muscles

But what is it? Yes, eye gymnastics does exist, and is even highly recommended for reactivating blood circulation that has slowed overnight. Done as soon as you wake up, this unusual sport gently awakens the 22 eye muscles. How do you do it? Simply roll your eyes, three times to the right, three times to the left. Three times up, three times down.

5 / Soothe the eyes with floral waters

After a night of full moon or insomnia, you wake up with tired, puffy or even crushed eyes... To remedy this, nothing beats floral waters or hydrolats. Chamomile or cornflower floral waters are reputed to relieve congestion. Combine this with the freshness of a night in the fridge and you've got a miracle remedy for refreshed eyes in no time! How to use? Apply the floral water (preferably chamomile or cornflower for a tenfold decongestant effect) to two reusable cotton pads, and leave on each eye for around two minutes. Repeat for up to ten minutes if necessary! Note that some shops sell relaxation masks impregnated with small lavender or other relaxing beads to soothe and chase away eye fatigue. ideal!

6 / We massage your face!

This gesture should be performed daily (even after a good night's sleep!), as facial massage helps maintain skin elasticity, firm contours, plump cheeks and optimal blood circulation! The gesture is simple, and you can use accessories such as the Gua Sha or the roll-on. After applying your oil or day cream, gently massage the skin in a circular motion to ensure maximum penetration (from chin to ears). For a relaxed face, we gently pinch the skin, starting between the eyebrows and continuing to the end of their line (towards the outside of the face). To eliminate puffiness, lightly tap under the eyes from the outside inwards. In addition, gently pinch (at least three times) the skin on the side of each eye. These two repeated actions will reactivate blood circulation under the eyes, bringing back color to those unwanted dark circles!

7 / Close… your eyes!

Last but not least, you need to give yourself some time out from the outside world. No matter how small, it's important. Closing your eyes for a few seconds (or even a minute, if you can afford it) activates the parasympathetic nervous system (the one responsible for relaxation) and allows self-drainage. Add to this three deep breaths, and you're fresh and refreshed again!
