Microblading - everything you need to know before taking the plunge

Microblading - everything you need to know before taking the plunge

Coralie Techer

For clean, intense, perfectly defined eyebrows, microblading is the solution of choice! What is microblading? Who is eligible? We tell you all about it.

The eyebrow is a beauty asset that absolutely must be maintained. Yet for many years, this hairy line that frames our eyes has been neglected. In the 90s and 2000s, we even went so far as to make it invisible by over-thinning it. A fashion that left its mark since an over-plucked eyebrow may never grow back.... To overcome this problem, some people have tried to revive the eyebrow with a tattoo, but this too has proved unsuccessful. The tattoo is far too crude, turning blue as it ages... it's best to avoid this solution! Fortunately, there's a much more aesthetic, long-lasting solution for restoring harmonious eyebrows: microblading, which is akin to permanent make-up!

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

It's the number 1 solution for those who want to say goodbye to eyebrow make-up every morning! Properly applied, microblading produces a stunning effect. The hair-by-hair pattern gives an extremely natural look.

The little extra? Microblading makes for a smoother transition for those waiting to regrow an over-plucked eyebrow. In fact, even with microblading, you can apply your ROSEBROW treatment to accelerate hair regrowth.

Is it painful? Some compare it to the pain of a tattoo, others find it more tolerable. It all depends on individual sensitivity and the healing process.

MIROBLADING AND MICROSHADING: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Microblading, microshading... It's easy to get confused between these two semi-permanent make-up techniques, which are very different indeed.

  • Microblading is the technique of choice if you have a faded or deconstructed eyebrow line, as it will mimic the effect of eyebrow hairs, reconstituting the base strand by strand. It's an excellent choice for those who want to emphasize their eyes without having to apply make-up every morning with a pencil.
  • Microshading, on the other hand, applies pigments via a needle that dabs tiny dots into the upper layer of skin, leaving a powdery effect. It's as if it had been filled in with blush or pencil. The result is similar where the technique differs. However, microblading lasts longer, from a year and a half to three years, depending on skin type, individual habits and the frequency of touch-ups.

WHERE CAN MICROBLADING BE DONE?

Microblading is not a trivial procedure, and must be performed by a certified practitioner. To avoid side-effects and complete failure (remember, microblading is semi-permanent!), the practitioner must be trained and able to attest to this with a diploma. This is often displayed behind the institute counter or in the room where microblading is performed.

This can also be verified by asking the right questions: where did the training take place? When was it? How many sessions has the professional performed since then? By observing the right gestures: every gesture must be borderline surgical. The practitioner must disinfect the room between each session, including the work surface and the chair/operating table. She must wear gloves and change the blade of her scalpel between different clients.

WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS TO MICROBLADING?

As with any direct procedure on the body, there are a few contraindications to microblading. The practice is not recommended for people suffering from: coagulation problems, severe acne, treatment with isotretinoin, insulin-dependent diabetes. Microblading should also be avoided if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or at risk of severe allergies.

RETOUCHES ET ENTRETIEN, COMMENT GARDER SON MICROBLADING AU TOP ?

We recommend a touch-up once a year, to keep your microblading perfectly defined. Touch-ups are generally carried out by the same practitioner who performed the microblading, at a much lower cost than the first session. As for maintenance, as with any tattoo or skin alteration, it's best to avoid direct exposure to the sun! For the first few months, we recommend avoiding seawater and swimming pools. Immediately after the first session, apply an antiseptic to the inflamed area (eyebrows), followed by Vaseline to accelerate healing.

Please note: eyebrows are likely to form small scabs (due to scarring), so avoid scratching them and give the skin time to recover its beauty.
