Selon une étude publiée dans le magazine Jama Dermatology, des chercheurs attestent de l'efficacité de cette pratique dans notre quête effrénée du miracle anti-âge. En effet, lors de l'étude une trentaine de personnes ont pratiqué les 32 exercices faciaux recommandés par le yoga du visage tous les jours, et ce pendant huit semaines. Âgés de quarante à soixante-cinq ans, les volontaires ont pu remarquer des signes probants dès la neuvième semaine. Au bout de 20 semaines, le changement était radical (joues rebondies, paupières supérieures remontées, ovale du visage raffermit, teint lumineux) et la moyenne avait physiquement rajeuni de deux années.

How can I practice facial yoga at home?

Facial yoga is so simple that it can be practiced at home, without the presence of a coach or special equipment (although you can add the use of natural stone mushrooms, Gua Sha or a stone roller). It is ideally performed in the morning, before starting the day. Among other things, it releases tension and gets you off to a good start. Every morning, after getting up and before getting ready, allow yourself five to ten minutes of relaxation for this well-being ritual. By taking deep breaths and adding a mantra (the OM to release tension, for example), you apply the various exercises inspired by Sylvie Lefranc's recommendations:

To reduce frown lines:

Repeat five times. Use your index finger to massage the area between the eyebrows, moving up and down cyclically. Then compress the muscle in the area with the palm of the hand.

To smooth the forehead:

Repeat ten times. To loosen up the forehead and soften it from the worries accumulated throughout the day, place both hands on the top of the forehead. Slide them up and back, lowering your eyes, and hold the muscle tension for five seconds. Release by exhaling.

Smooth smile lines:

À répéter deux fois. Pour lisser les petites rides naso-labiales, autrement connues sous le nom de rides du sourire. On étire les tempes vers l'arrière à l'aide des paumes des mains. En même temps, former un O avec la bouche tout en collant la lèvre supérieure sur les dents pendant cinq secondes.

To tone the oval of the face:

Repeat five times. Make a cup with your hands under the chin, making sure to wrap around the contour of the face. Create resistance with your head bent forward, hold for ten seconds, release, exhale and repeat. You can also apply this exercise with a Gua Sha! 

To smooth crow's feet:

Repeat five times. Thumbs on back of neck, rest of hand at temples. Slide fingers back without moving thumbs. Hold for five seconds, release and repeat.

To smooth the lip contour:

Repeat three times. Inflate cheeks, press hand against lips as if to prevent air escaping. Hold for five seconds. For plumped-up lips, have fun creating vibrations with your mouth by blowing hard.
