Eau de Rose - How to enjoy its beauty benefits?

Eau de Rose - How to enjoy its beauty benefits?

Coralie Techer

Considered the queen of flowers, its beauty and delicious fragrance make it a prized ingredient in the world of cosmetics and perfumery. How can we make the most of rose's beauty benefits? We tell you all about it.

Anti-aging, moisturizing, purifying, toning, antioxidant... As with rice water, the virtues of the rose are legion and have been appreciated the world over for millennia. As part of their beauty routine, women of antiquity, and even those of ancient Egypt, used to sprinkle rose petals over their baths. It is said that the great Cleopatra liked to accompany her donkey milk bath with rose petals. Rose petals were said to have a remarkable healing and toning effect... The beauty secret of the great ladies of the time? Very probably.

The benefits of rose in cosmetics

  • Anti-aging: Its antioxidant action makes rose an incomparable ally in protecting the epidermis against the effects of time. The aging process of cells slows down, allowing the skin to regenerate more easily. Obviously, we can never completely stop the biological clock, and that's not the goal. But a little help to stay in those beautiful years a little longer doesn't hurt.
  • Hydration: Rose is also known for its regenerative and softening properties (skin elasticity), a very hydrating action. It's no coincidence that many big names in cosmetics have made it the main active ingredient in their day and night creams. Ideal for dry and mature skin.
  • Soothing: In its form of hydrosol, vegetable oil, cream, or even milk, rose soothes. Why? Due to its anti-inflammatory action, rose reduces the dilation of blood vessels and thus prevents the appearance of redness, calms irritations and itching. More unusual, its sweet scent acts on our nervous system and calms it... it is therefore also very popular in the form of essential oil to diffuse.
  • Toning: it's no longer a secret, but it's always worth remembering. Rose water, like floral waters in general, has a wonderful toning effect on the skin! In summer and winter, treat yourself. Morning (before your makeup routine) and evening (after your makeup removal routine), soak your reusable wipe with rose water and gently pat it on your face. The active ingredients in the rose provide an unparalleled boost to tired skin! Patting allows for deeper penetration and reactivates blood circulation.
  • Purifying: Pores are tightened thanks to the purifying and astringent action of rose. Rose water, in particular, helps regulate sebum. Blemishes are inevitably reduced, and all this without even drying out the skin! Rose water has it all.

Please note

Rose is recommended for all skin types, but is more suitable for dry, sensitive skin, since its purifying action doesn't dry out the skin. It deeply moisturizes and protects, ideal for this type of skin.

The daily benefits of rose water

When it comes to beauty, the rose is appreciated in all its forms. But if there's one skincare product we should all include in our beauty and well-being routine, it's rose hydrosol. Rose water, or hydrolat, is obtained by distilling the flower. Its properties have been widely recognized and appreciated since its origins in Arab countries in the 10th century. A recognized ally for the beauty of our skin, rose hydrosol is obtained by distilling the petals. It purifies, tones, refreshes and blocks the cell-ageing process. Although suitable for all skin types, its astringent action and antibacterial properties make it an effective treatment for oily, acne-prone skin...

How to use rosewater effectively on the skin?

It can be poured directly into bath water, sprayed onto the skin using a spray applicator, or simply soaked into a reusable wipe. Apply rose water every morning for firm, toned skin all day long! In the evening, we apply it to purify the skin, regenerate it to the max and allow our epidermis to hydrate deeply so as to remain toned over time.

How do I use rosewater on my hair?

Rosewater is very popular for scalp care. It purifies the scalp, calming irritation and itching. Spray rosewater directly onto the skin of the scalp, then gently massage the lotion into the hair follicles. This will also boost blood circulation and stimulate hair growth. It's also said that in the event of a headache, a massage with rose oil or a refreshment with rose hydrosol can soothe the pain.

Good to know: like all hydrosols, rose water can be kept in a cool place for around three months after opening.

Rose oil, its daily benefits

For a complete beauty routine, we add rose oil to our beauty routine, but not just any rose oil. The one that really works miracles on the skin is rosehip oil. Native to South America, Rosa Rubiginosa is a white rose that produces fruits whose seeds are cold-pressed to obtain the famous rosehip oil. Extremely rich in vitamins A and C, it also contains polysaturated fatty acids, making it a powerful anti-aging agent. In the world of cosmetics, it is also widely appreciated for its healing effect, helping to reduce stretch marks and brown spots. Totally natural, it's the ideal skin care product for keeping skin deeply moisturized during pregnancy, for example.

How do I use rose hip oil?

Apply a few drops of oil to the body and face, morning and night (apply regularly for best results). You can apply your own oil to the eye contour area, but note that an eye contour serum is better suited to this extremely fine, fragile zone.

If you want to use it to reduce stretch marks, massage the area. The same goes for spots or scars. In these cases, a third application (between midday and midnight) may be recommended. Rosehip oil is also highly recommended for relieving skin problems such as psoriasis and sunburn, and acts effectively to slow skin aging.

Good to see

It's important to choose your oil carefully, to avoid any inconvenience. Make sure it's always marked "first cold pressed" and "organically grown". And, of course, we do our best to buy from approved suppliers!
