Leg hair removal: all our advice
Leg hair removal: all our advice
Coralie Techer
If hair is more and more loved and accepted, it is also normal to want to get rid of it for a summer. We give you our little tips for easy hair removal.
When you go on vacation, you only want one thing: to relax, chill out without worrying about anything other than the freshness of your mojito. It is therefore logical to look for the best way to wax before packing your bags. While salons offer rather interesting hair removal packages, not everyone has the time or the means to run there before hitting the road for vacation. The simplest solution remains: to waltz your hair yourself. At home, there are many solutions: wax, shaving, depilatory creams, electric epilators and other trends have become essential in our travel kits in just a few years. Just like for eyebrow waxing , the main thing is to find the method that suits you.

The different hair removal techniques ideal for the legs
Waxing
Hair removal consists of removing the entire hair, including the bulb. This method can significantly slow down hair regrowth and leaves us alone for a few weeks. Hair removal with hot wax or cold wax still requires equipment: a strip to apply the wax, something to warm it up and something to prepare it if it is not already ready. It also takes time, you need to be able to sit down for at least half an hour to perfect your hair removal in every little corner. Be careful, hot wax can be dangerous to handle, there is a real risk of burns.
Shaving
This is probably the quickest solution. But this practice has the major drawback of being suitable for a specific situation. A swim in the pool? Shave, go out with your legs in the air, shave. A dive in the sea? Shave... The operation must be repeated constantly. It can be off-putting and, above all, we don't have time for anything else on vacation. To limit the constraints, shaving can be done using shaving oil. Shaving oil prepares the skin, prevents irritation and small cuts and softens the epidermis, which is nourished while being rid of its hair. You should know that so-called shaving oils are completely natural and formulated to slow hair regrowth. A practical tool that can be carried absolutely anywhere in your bag, just to ensure last-minute touch-ups.
Hair removal cream
A spatula, a spread of cream and voilà, the hairs are removed as if by magic. How does depilatory cream work? Its effect is less long-lasting than wax but more effective than a razor. The alkaline active ingredients it contains destroy the hairs right down to their roots by directly attacking the keratin. The process can be scary and its somewhat chemical smell is enough to raise questions. In recent years, they have been long criticized, before coming back to the forefront with more neutral formulations and even adapted to sensitive skin. Long live soft legs!
The electric epilator
Practical, it can also be scary because it is reputed to be painful. The electric epilator pulls out the hair from its root! It ensures that your skin is in top condition for days and days. Obviously, in recent years the market has ensured that epilators are less and less painful and more and more effective. Interchangeable heads, adjustable intensities, brands compete in imagination to offer the best! Easy to slip into your bag, it can work on charge and therefore be used almost anywhere.
Permanent hair removal
With laser, permanent hair removal is, as its name suggests, an irreversible operation. Over several sessions in a salon, permanent hair removal is a hair removal method that is increasingly popular with those who no longer want to bother with their hair. Possible under the armpits, legs, arms and even the bikini line, this hair removal technique uses the power of laser rays to reach the hair bulb and reduce it until nothing remains. Several sessions are necessary depending on the areas, skin type and hair type.

Waxing at home: good tips for doing it right
Whether it's the legs, bikini line or armpits, waxing at home requires a certain amount of application and, above all, gentleness.
For the legs
This is certainly the easiest area to wax, and it is most certainly also the one we take the least care of! Before each waxing, be sure to gently but thoroughly scrub the legs. Scrubbing removes dead skin and facilitates not only the care but also the removal of hair. The night before waxing, make sure to moisturize your skin well (although you should moisturize it every day, without exception) to prevent it from being too weakened by the heat of the wax and the rigor of the waxing. Be careful, when using oriental hot wax, avoid passing the wax twice over the same area, this can cause irritation or burns.
But also for the rest of the body
Armpits: to keep them soft and smooth, without irritating them. We make sure to prepare the area to avoid the slightest inconvenience. The day before, we can plan to moisturize our armpits using a vegetable oil (like coconut oil!) the nourished skin will be stronger to support the hair removal which can be painful under the armpits! Obviously, we choose wax strips adapted to this area.
The jersey: just like the armpits, this is a fragile area. But waxing remains the best way to remove hair without fearing its impromptu return in the middle of the holidays. Full bikini waxing, bikini, Brazilian, metro ticket, classic... Bikini waxing is varied and can therefore be suitable for all situations! Be careful, however, for the full bikini, the latter is increasingly contraindicated by specialists who insist on the fact that pubic hair is not there by chance... It protects against infections and risks of irritation! Oriental wax (soft and warm) is perfectly suited to waxing this fragile area. Before any waxing, a light scrub is carried out (which will remove dead skin and facilitate the uprooting of the hair). Be careful not to do this more than once a month.

Shaving at home: How to make the results last?
For a lasting result, shaving is clearly not the most appreciated. Indeed, it is generally necessary to repeat the operation every two days (if not sooner, everyone's hairiness being different). However, we can cheat a little and make the shave last a little longer. To do this, we use the right tips:
- Shave in the direction of hair growth: contrary to what you might think and especially what is generally done, shave in the direction of hair growth! And not the other way around. This method helps prevent irritation but especially nasty ingrown hairs.
- Check the condition of your blades: for optimal efficiency, make sure your blades are sharp! A dull blade can be dangerous.
- Never shave dry: it's a mistake we've all made... and one we've probably regretted! Dry shaving inevitably causes significant skin irritation, and can also lead to more or less painful cuts. Shave with a shaving gel or oil specially designed for the operation. Some even slow down hair regrowth.
- Moisturize your legs: before, after, all the time! Moisturizing your legs is definitely not something to be neglected, in winter or summer.
- Shave bony areas carefully: around the knees and ankles, always be very careful because this is where the razor can most often hurt us.
