Lisa Baptista, meeting with the French FX make-up fairy

Lisa Baptista, meeting with the French FX make-up fairy

Coralie Techer

lisa baptista - roseblog

With over a million followers on TikTok, Lisa Baptista has established herself as one of the most followed French makeup artists on social media! Her love of makeup, her advice for getting started, her beauty tips... Discover her portrait drawn up for ROSEBLOG.

ROSEBLOG - Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Where are you from, what do you do in life?

Lisa Baptista - " My name is Lisa, I'm 23 years old. I've been working in makeup professionally for about four years now. At first, it was just a passion... then one morning I woke up and quite simply said to myself that it would be pretty cool to turn my passion into my job! I got started like that, I did two years of training in a makeup and beauty school that I absolutely loved. Today I have a self-employed status which allows me to work as a makeup artist for events, personalized services but which also allows me to ensure my status as an influencer on the networks where I share my FX makeup creations. My big dream is to end up working as a makeup artist in the movies. A series, a big Hollywood production... The dream!"

ROSEBLOG - How did your desire to become a make-up artist come about? Was it a dream that had matured or a life opportunity that you were able to seize?

Lisa Baptista - "Since I was little, I have been immersed in the creative world thanks to my father, who is an artist himself. He always told me that he could see me working as an artist! At school, I really liked plastic arts and drawing. I transposed that to makeup, which ended up becoming a real passion. When I do makeup, I don't count my hours! I love it. I couldn't have done a normal job behind a desk all day long..."

ROSEBLOG - Why did you choose to specialize in FX makeup?

Lisa Baptista - " Beauty makeup, I start from the principle that once you take classes, everyone can do it! It's still basic makeup. I wanted to push my limits and do something different, to go further. On social media, I've always followed a lot of American makeup artists. In the United States, this art of FX is very widespread, they inspired me a lot and pushed me to get started! I start from the principle of "who can do more, can do less". If I'm good at FX, then I'll definitely be able to go back to basic makeup easily!"

ROSEBLOG - How do you create makeup? What is your creative process?

Lisa Baptista - " When it's a character like Buzz Lightyear, I get inspired after seeing the film. I make a little sketch in pencil, and I go with my gut feeling! On the other hand, when I work with brands or I have a particular make-up to prepare for work, then I think more closely about the question. I pay attention to answering the smallest details requested."

ROSEBLOG - What does makeup inspire in you in general?

Lisa Baptista - "Makeup soothes me. I don't count my hours! Sometimes I can do a character's makeup in four hours, or I can do it in seven or eight hours... without a break! It takes me a lot of time, but I'm all in. I find it incredible that you can completely transform yourself thanks to makeup. Today I'm Lisa but tomorrow I could very well become Jack Sparrow! It's also true when I do makeup for clients, the person may want more hollow cheeks, a straighter nose, and it's totally possible thanks to makeup. I love it."

ROSEBLOG - What advice could you give to those who would like to get into the profession?

Lisa Baptista - " My first piece of advice (and the most important) is to believe in yourself. When I started in the makeup industry, people wanted me to believe that I wouldn't make it, that it was a difficult industry that required a network that I didn't have. But I told myself "if I don't try, I'll never know!" So yes, today I'm still not a movie makeup artist, I still have goals to achieve but I'm getting there little by little. And if I had listened to those who tried to discourage me, I wouldn't be here. So I highly recommend believing in yourself, not giving up (it's a complicated job) and giving your all to succeed! With determination and passion, you can always get there."

ROSEBLOG - Social networks have contributed to your success, can you say that it is a real springboard for today's artists?

Lisa Baptista - " Totally. Social networks are a great and good alternative for artists who want to make themselves known and who don't necessarily have a large address book when they start out. Today, social networks allow me to create a lot of connections, I make myself known this way! I didn't have any network when I started, TikTok or Instagram allow you to build a career. However, you always have to be careful, there are limits to social networks. The notoriety linked to networks brings negative sides but you have to know how to stay true to yourself."

ROSEBLOG - What is your makeup removal ritual after an FX production? Your favorite product to take care of your skin?

Lisa Baptista - " When I have time, I do things properly with a makeup remover and a facial cleanser. When I have less time, I slather my face with coconut oil and take it all off in the shower! Coconut oil is radical for cleaning your skin as best as possible and it's also natural. I finish with a soap wash (or basic facial cleanser) to remove the greasy residue from the oil on my skin. Other than that, I don't have any favorite skincare rituals or treatments... I wouldn't make a good beauty consultant! I'm lucky to have good skin, I just always make sure to clean it thoroughly before going to bed."

ROSEBLOG - Can you tell us about your aspirations for the future?

Lisa Baptista - " Working in the cinema, creating collections with big make-up brands like Benefit or Becca. But above all, launching my own make-up brand. Making people happy with ranges dedicated to artistic make-up... I would love that!"
