What are the healing stages of permanent eyebrow makeup?

What are the healing stages of permanent eyebrow makeup?

Coralie Techer

Permanent eyebrow makeup is not a trivial act, before starting you need to have all the cards in hand. How exactly does a session take place but above all how does the healing process happen? We tell you everything.

Permanent makeup is back on the beauty scene. Worked in a more refined way, it offers beauty addicts the opportunity for revisited beauty, almost instantaneous and faithful over time! It is the (almost) miracle solution for those who want precise and well-executed makeup without having to go to the mirror box every morning.

Permanent eyebrow makeup tops the list. It must be said that eyebrows have been the number 1 beauty concern in recent years. We want them full, intense, clean and well-defined, a trend that most of the time requires going under the blade of a microblading or the needle of a microshading. These two aesthetic actions are practiced in an institute (generally in two sessions) and do not require any hospitalization but rather rigorous monitoring in the days following the operation because there is healing.

What is permanent eyebrow makeup?

It's simple, permanent eyebrow makeup (regardless of the technique) consists of inserting pigments under the surface layer of the skin in order to draw the eyebrows in the most natural way possible. What distinguishes this technique from tattooing is the pigments used but also the way they are placed under the skin. With microblading, it is a small scalpel soaked in material that will place the pigments under the skin by hatching it in order to draw a hair-by-hair appearance. For microshading, it is a needle that will dab the material under the surface of the skin in order to give the eyebrows a powdered appearance. These very effective techniques with a more or less similar result, aim to magnify the eyebrows and allow those who do it to say bye bye to eyebrow pencils for a minimum of two years. However, as you will have understood, permanent makeup is an operation that alters the skin and leaves it raw, which implies a healing time.

What is the healing time after a permanent makeup session?

Although everything depends on the type of skin and the cell renewal of each person, the healing time following permanent eyebrow makeup is approximately two weeks. After the session, the skin is raw and the area is very red, this normally lasts 24 hours. Following the redness and over the first few days, scabs may appear, this is the main stage of healing. The skin will regenerate while forming scabs that will protect the area during the healing process. These scabs can potentially cause itching or even some minor bleeding. Care must be taken to follow each step of care to ensure the healthy and complete healing process of the skin under the eyebrows.

How to take care of your eyebrows during healing?

The time of skin healing after permanent eyebrow makeup is essential. Not only to ensure the beautiful and good result of the operation but especially to ensure the good health of the skin and avoid any complications that could prove dangerous!

Have the right equipment

Each step of care is normally detailed by the specialist beautician who performs the permanent makeup. If she forgets to remind you, do not hesitate to ask her for a prescription. Generally speaking, it is then recommended to have the following necessary equipment in your possession:

  • A healing cream or petroleum jelly.
  • An antiseptic.
  • Sterilized compresses.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Numbing cream if the pain is too strong (again, it all depends on each person's sensitivity).

Step by step

After the permanent makeup session, avoid wetting and applying makeup to the eyebrow area for at least 48 hours. If you want to play it safe, we advise you to avoid makeup for the first week and to always clean your face gently with wet wipes. Every evening and from the first evening, you must disinfect the area using a sterilized compress and an antiseptic treatment, then apply Vaseline or healing cream in a thick layer. This operation must be repeated for fifteen days, until the scabs and tightness of the skin have completely stopped. During this period, the sun is prohibited! In the morning before going out, don't forget to spread sunscreen on your face (even in winter) and protect your eyebrows as much as possible with a cap or hat. Finally, know that after fifteen days you can start to resume a normal routine, wet your face in the pool or at the beach, get a little more sun (but always with the protection of the cream) and reuse your beauty products even the eyebrow serum can go there. The latter is even recommended to help your over-plucked eyebrows grow back effectively on permanent makeup.

What are the possible side effects of permanent makeup?

Since permanent makeup irritates the skin, there may be some side effects after the procedure. In some cases, poor healing can be expected. In fact, if you are the type of person whose skin heals poorly or poorly, you should avoid any permanent makeup procedure. In some cases, there may also be bleeding. This is not normally serious, but if it persists or bleeds profusely, it is best to seek medical advice immediately.
