Our advice for taking care of your lips

Our advice for taking care of your lips

Coralie Techer

Taking care of your lips is important! Discover our tips and advice for having luscious, soft and hydrated lips in a completely natural way and in all circumstances.

Like all parts of the body, lips also need to be pampered. A particularly fragile part of the face, the skin of the lips is thin and requires careful care, especially to get rid of dead skin and avoid chapped lips!

WHY DO OUR LIPS GET DAMAGED?

The lips are subject to aggression from various external factors. The cold, the wind, the air or even the sun, these different conditions contribute to drying out our lips and cause all sorts of unpleasantness, including chapping. You should know that the skin is made up of several layers: the deep hypodermis, the dermis and the epidermis. This last layer, called the superficial one, is the one we see. To protect itself from external aggressions (which are legion and constant), the epidermis is formed of a hydrolipidic film, largely produced by the sebaceous glands. It also produces melanin to prevent sunburn. It is this melanin that allows the skin to tan and not bake on contact with UV rays! For the thin skin of our lips it is different, the epidermis does not contain any sebaceous glands or melanocytes. Which makes this area a very exposed and therefore fragile part of the face. This is why it is important to follow a diligent care routine, in order to preserve, nourish and hydrate them in all seasons.

LIP EXFOLIATION, A BEAUTY GESTURE TO ADOPT URGENTLY

Due to being exposed to various climatic changes, dust, sun rays, makeup, and countless other stresses, lips become dry, dull and lose their shine.

The right reflex is to start exfoliating them at least twice a week, there are many products on the market that make this task easier. But it is also possible to do it at home with products from the cupboard. Sugar and honey are enough, gently massage the lips to remove small dead skin and rinse everything. That's it!

A GOOD HOMEMADE SCRUB RECIPE:

  • What you need: Baking soda and a little water. Mix everything together until you get a slightly grainy paste.
  • In practice: It is recommended to leave the recipe on the lips for a few minutes, then make small circular movements using a toothbrush (with soft bristles), or your fingers. Rinse with clean water.

HYDRATION: THE KEY WORD FOR HEALTHY LIPS

How to plump your lips naturally ? Many people don't make the connection between hydration and having beautiful lips, and yet it is probably the number 1 reason for a luscious, plump and colorful smile. Drinking enough water allows lips to be plump and soft! Goodbye dry lips.

HYDRATE BY DRINKING WATER:

If you don't drink the necessary amount of water per day, your lips will inevitably suffer. Chapped skin, dull color, tight feeling...

You should always remember to hydrate yourself! Even when you're not thirsty. Thirst is your body's last warning signal that it needs water. To remember, you can slip a water bottle into your handbag and if plain water doesn't appeal to you, you can add herbal tea or fruit to make delicious detox water.

NEVER SKIP THE LIP BALM STEP

In your makeup bag, we recommend always keeping a moisturizing lip balm like ROSELIPS , rich in vitamins and shea butter, the ROSEGOLD PARIS balm is organic. It nourishes and repairs with an immediate plumping effect, it is a vegan moisturizing lip balm, not tested on animals, which softens and subtly beautifies the lips.

Thanks to the hydration of ROSELIPS , the lips capture the light more easily, which gives a rather glamorous impression of volume.

Lip balm is the ultimate weapon against unexpected dryness.

BET ON THE MOISTURIZING LIP MASK

You have the choice of either applying a ready-made mask or simply preparing it yourself.

RECIPE FOR LIP CARE:

Lips that are tight and painful? This can quickly become the case as soon as autumn and the cold season gradually sets in. We then think about offering them a gentle treatment. Based on honey for its ultra healing and nourishing properties.

  • Necessary: a jar of honey and plain yogurt.
  • In practice: Mix honey and plain yogurt then place the mixture on the lips for 15 minutes. Apply twice a week for a nourishing effect and a valid result.

LIP CARE MASK:

The second recipe that can be very effective is a homemade balm made from olive oil and beeswax.

  • Needed: One teaspoon of cold-pressed olive oil. One teaspoon of beeswax. A few drops of mineral water.
  • In practice: Start by melting the beeswax in a bain-marie, then add the rest of the ingredients. Stir gently until you obtain a homogeneous mixture, then pour everything into a previously sterilized jar. Wait for the mixture to cool (be careful not to burn yourself). It's ready!

DON'T FORGET SUN PROTECTION:

And yes, there are sunscreens for lips and it is even highly recommended to use them! Prolonged exposure to the sun can aggravate dry lips. It is important to always have an anti-UV lip balm with at least SPF 30. Our lips have many nerve endings. Sunburn is therefore extremely painful in this area. But above all, (and the worst) sunburn can cause cold sores... Always take care to apply your lip balm regularly. In summer or in the mountains in winter, apply it every hour!

WHICH LIPSTICKS SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO KEEP LIPS SOFT AND MOISTURIZED?

Lipstick is a must-have for modern women's beauty. There are thousands of them, in tangy, deep, glamorous colors, rich textures, covering, mattifying, glossy, long-lasting... But be careful, if on paper all these lipsticks are to die for, you must above all choose them correctly according to your lips, your expectations and the season.

STEP 1: FOCUS ON THE RIGHT TEXTURE

MAT:

This texture reflects light less well and gives the illusion of having thinner lips. To avoid the drying effect that some matte lipsticks can bring, apply a moisturizing balm before applying the lipstick.

GLOSS:

Lip gloss helps to accentuate the volume of the lips. Ideally, choose one with a rich and moisturizing formula.

CREAMY:

When the lipstick is creamy, it covers the lips well, without drying them out. It has the advantage of being very often, directly moisturizing.

STEP 2: CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHADE

Always opt for a lipstick that gives you a healthy glow and brings out your lips in an elegant and subtle way.

Taking the time to choose the right color ensures a devastating smile! We make sure to do so according to the complexion of our skin:

  • For white skin, we prefer lipsticks in bright or dark shades which will further accentuate the complexion.
  • Dark skin tones will prefer very bright, orange reds to enhance naturally tanned complexions.
  • Women with dark skin can choose intensely colored lipsticks.
  • Porcelain skins will prefer cool and nude tones. Although a deep red can be devilishly elegant.

WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD YOU CHOOSE FOR A LIP BALM?

In order to ensure the effectiveness of your lip balm , it is essential to take the time to analyze its composition. We favor those that contain a moisturizing agent such as shea butter, jojoba oil or honey. These (natural) active ingredients will provide deep hydration. Note that an effective lip balm must also contain a restorative agent such as aloe vera, which ensures overall lip health.

WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD BE AVOIDED?

Some ingredients are harmful... Absolutely to be avoided for the well-being of our lips. Among the forbidden ones we find mineral oils which maintain hydration in an optimal way but tend to prevent the lips from breathing. It is also good to pay attention to the presence of essential oils which can irritate. Obviously we avoid, we flee all products based on paraben and silicone.

EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD AVOID TO KEEP LIPS MOISTURIZED

  • We don't moisten our lips with our tongue... It's tempting when we feel them dry but it has the opposite effect we're looking for!
  • We avoid touching our lips with our hands, they are a real breeding ground for bacteria. And if it is a habit that we cannot get rid of, then we will have to make sure to wash our hands regularly or disinfect them as with theROSECLEAN solution, the lotion specially designed by ROSEGOLD Paris to moisturize and clean hands in a healthy and natural way.
  • Too much hydration kills hydration. A dose of lip balm every two minutes is not the solution. We settle for two to three doses a day and that's it!
