How to have beautiful hands?

Coralie Techer

Our hands are constantly working. In permanent and direct contact with the outside world, they bear the full brunt of time and our activities… To prevent them from becoming damaged and keep them looking fresh and beautiful, discover all our tips for a perfect manicure at home.

Without them, we would lose much of our dexterity… Our hands allow us to do almost everything! Work, write, draw, use our smartphone, connect with others, express ourselves, catch ourselves, and even take care of ourselves. They are essential to our daily well-being. And yet, do we really take care of them? Temperature changes, chemicals, friction, and pretty much everything we touch or do with our hands throughout the day damage them considerably. Of course, nails must also be taken into account. More or less fragile, they too suffer from our excesses (failed manicures, gel, semi-permanent application, nail biting…). Taking care of your hands every day helps prevent minor discomforts that can become much more significant and serious, such as the development of fungal infections or paronychia!

The best practices to adopt to take care of your hands

For an absolutely perfect manicure (even without going to a nail salon), adopt the right practices.

Daily hydration

Do you remember to moisturize your hands? If the answer is no, then you should change that quickly! To keep your hands soft, your skin nourished, and above all to prevent signs of aging (hands are the part of the body where aging shows most, especially with the appearance of brown spots), you must moisturize DAILY. It is even recommended to moisturize them whenever you feel the need (tightness, dryness). With this whole global pandemic situation, hydration is more important than ever. Our hands are severely tested by alcohol-based hand gels. This sanitary measure should never be neglected, but it should not damage your hands either. If you can combine hygiene and hydration, that's even better. A little tip: choose alcohol-based solutions that are not harsh on the skin, like ROSECLEAN by ROSEGOLD, which can eliminate up to 99% of bacteria on the skin's surface while keeping the skin soft.

Apply masks and do scrubs

Yes, hand masks and scrubs exist, and they always feel great. A major trend in Asian countries such as South Korea and Taiwan, hand masks and scrubs are arriving in the West and proliferating on cosmetic shelves. The masks, which look like paper gloves, are soaked in moisturizing and beneficial lotions for our hands. You slip your hands in and leave them on for the indicated time. The result? Deeply revitalized, super-soft skin ! Of course, you can also make your own homemade masks (natural, organic, and made with love)… As for scrubs, generally with large grains, their purpose is to remove dead skin from the superficial layer of the epidermis. Do one a week (always before the mask), depending on the condition of your hands.

Wear protective gloves for household chores

Protective gloves are not just for professionals. In fact, we should all wear them whenever our skin comes into contact with a household product, chemical or not. This applies to dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, black soap, glass cleaner, and anything that can be used to clean, strip, and shine! Whenever possible, choose washable gloves.

Apply sunscreen

The skin on your hands is extremely thin! Protecting it from the sun's UV rays should be automatic. So remember that this is a step that must become a priority before leaving the house.

Space out applications of nail polish, gel, or other semi-permanent products

Taking care of your nails is obviously part of hand care! And one of the things that damages this part of the body the most… is applying nail polish. Certainly ultra-aesthetic, we love it. However, nail polish is harmful to our nails. It is essential to space out applications (at least every one to two months, or every three months) to allow the nail to regenerate and regain strength to withstand a new coat of beauty.

5 homemade recipes for stunning hands and nails

To best preserve the beauty of our hands, we are revealing five homemade recipes to try.

The olive oil and lemon bath

In a bowl of warm water, mix olive oil and lemon to create a natural hand treatment. Olive oil will nourish dry cuticles, and lemon will whiten nails (sometimes yellowed due to nail polish, for example). Soak your hands in it for about fifteen minutes. Repeat once a week to give yourself a complete beauty treatment.

A honey and sugar scrub

Another great recipe for beautiful hands, made with ingredients from the kitchen cupboard. Mix one teaspoon of brown sugar (to remove dead skin), one tablespoon of honey, and add an egg yolk (intense skin hydration). Knead until you get a cream and apply while massaging to allow the scrub to work effectively. Repeat at least once a week if your hands need it.

The miracle treatment for strengthened nails

Brittle nails? Soft? Or prone to splitting? Try castor oil, which is ideal for hair and also great for nails. It restores their strength, vitality, and shine! Use the castor oil bath as a treatment (once or twice a week for three weeks) for better long-term results. You can also apply it carefully to each nail in the evening before going to bed. It is best to leave it on overnight as a poultice (in a glove, for example).
