Who hasn't dreamed of the perfect blow-dry without having to leave the house? Unless you regularly call in a hairdresser at home, here are our tips for a successful home blow-dry. 

Although it's becoming increasingly fashionable to keep your hair natural, there's no reason why you can't indulge from time to time in the lustrous pleasure of a perfect blow-dry. While blow-drying is a pleasure to be enjoyed at the hairdresser's, it can also be done at home with the right accessories and technique. Like anything else, you can't master it on the first try, but with a little practice, you'll probably be able to do without it! Smooth or curly, blow-drying will hold no secrets for you. 

Brushes that are easy to do at home 

At the hairdresser's, specialists can suggest a plethora of styles for your blow-dry. At home, it's good enough to be able to apply the basics: a smooth, curly blow-dry, just to vary the pleasures. Those with curly hair inevitably dream of mastering the curly blow-dry, while those with curly locks sometimes dream of sporting a sleek mane. There's nothing wrong with indulging in a change of head!

Curly blow-dry for straight hair

The curly blow-dry is probably the most technical. It requires a certain dexterity and a good hand! To curl your hair, you need to prioritize your accessories. Make sure you choose the right brush and hair dryer, and add to that the use of straightening plates or a curling iron. Last but not least, use the right products to complete the look. Healthy hair is inevitably more beautiful and holds brushings better. Curly blow-drying can be difficult on very straight, fine hair. If this is your case, don't hesitate to make styling easier by using curlers!

Smooth blow-drying for curly hair

Although it can be time-consuming (especially for curly hair), straight blow-drying for curly hair is pretty easy to do. Where it will require special attention is in the area of care. Curly hair is fragile, so to avoid damaging the roundness of natural curls, we take care to protect our hair as much as possible from the heat of blow-drying, always applying a thermo-protective conditioner before any modification.

What accessories should you choose for a perfect blow-dry? 

For a successful blow-dry, nothing beats the right accessories! At home, you can equip yourself (almost) like a professional with : 

- A good hair dryer. Make sure it has several heat modes and a cool mode. Thanks to its blast of cool air, the latter not only ensures shiny hair, but also helps close the open scales of the hair fiber and limit breakage.

- One or more round brushes, depending on hair type. A small one for fine, short hair, a big one for thick, long hair! A round brush is just as effective for straight as for curly blow-drying.

- Straightening plates, to perfect the smoothing of each strand of hair, or to adopt a pretty wavy effect for long, straight hair.  

- Clips, just like in the salon. They help hold strand by strand and are applied zone by zone for perfectly even blow-drying and beautiful styling. 

- A curling iron, which can be used in conjunction with a curly blow-dry to perfect small strands that may not have been picked up by the brush. The result is a beautiful, voluminous blow-dry.

- For ultra-fast, smooth or curly blow-drying, nothing beats a blow brush! Just like a hairdryer, a blowbrush is applied to damp hair. With its mechanical rolling action, the brush rolls or smoothes strands while drying them and adding maximum volume.

The right gestures for a successful blow-dry

Sur cheveux courts comme sur cheveux longs, pour réussir son brushing à la maison, il faut en plus d'avoir les bons accessoires, appliquer les bons gestes. Pour commencer, procédez par étapes. Pour un brushing parfait, accordez-vous du temps. Il ne se fait pas en cinq minutes. Prévoyez donc une tranche horaire large (un dimanche après-midi par exemple) pour pouvoir recommencer si besoin. C'est votre moment cocoon, profitez-en ! 

Qu'il s'agisse du brushing lisse ou bouclé, le brushing s'applique toujours sur cheveux propres et mouillés. La case soin (masque, après shampoing) et shampoing est donc conseillée pour préparer les cheveux, les rendre plus souples et les fortifier avant leur modification. Veillez à utiliser des soins dédiés à votre type de cheveux, ils n'en seront que plus beaux. 

After shampooing and conditioning, gently dry hair from roots to ends using a microfiber towel. Be careful: hair dries by dabbing, not by rubbing! This mistake weakens the fiber and creates frizz... So forget it. 

How to protect your hair before blow-drying

Before getting down to business, we protect our hair. With a thermo-protective cream, lotion or spray. This treatment creates a barrier around the hair to prevent heat from penetrating the scales and damaging the strands deep down. 

Then it's on to styling, with blow dryer (or blow brush), brush and tongs, to apply the desired blow-dry! The big round brush for soft curls on long, thick hair, the little fine brush on short hair for smooth, glossy hair. Patience is sometimes required, but with determination and pugnacity, a homemade blow-dry can really be perfect.
