The easy sauna, steam bath or face sauna consists in thoroughly cleansing your face with steam ... How do you do it at home? We tell you all about it.

The Sauna Facial is a beauty method and skincare technique based on the principle that hot water steam is excellent for caring for our skin. The technique is not new, and Asian countries have been making good use of it for a long time.

In the West, it is becoming increasingly popular and is usually performed in beauty salons. However, for some time now, a number of brands have been offering devices that enable this to be done at home. The idea? Treat your face to a sauna ritual, with a targeted hot-steam bath to rid it of encrusted impurities.

Facial sauna and steam bath - what's the difference?

The Facial Sauna is a patented technology. It is completely inspired by the steam bath, which can be done at home, with extreme care, over a pot of boiling water (when cooking pasta, for example...). Of course, the second method can be a tad dangerous!

The Sauna Facial acts as a skin purifier with the safety of a certified device. Its nano-care technology facilitates deep steam penetration. In fact, this mechanism creates nano particles of steam, 8,000 times smaller than the water vapor generated by a simple steam bath! The device is therefore more effective than its manual ancestor. It gently opens pores, removes impurities and makes it easier to impregnate skincare products at home.

How do I use the Facial Sauna at home?

Brands of technological beauty appliances now offer so-called "nomadic" devices so that you can carry out your Facial Sauna yourself at home. Before using the sauna, you need to prepare your skin, i.e. make sure it's clean! This means gentle, precise cleansing with a suitable soap or cleanser.

The Facial Sauna has a nozzle that follows the shape of the face, so the idea is to place your face on it and activate the steam process. The treatment lasts around 15 to 20 minutes, so you can adapt the timing to suit your needs. Ideal for mature skin, it is suitable for all skin types except those with serious skin problems! 

Bon à savoir : Les peaux mixtes à grasses peuvent se permettre une utilisation régulière allant d'une à deux fois par semaine. Mais attention, le type de peau peaux sensible ou les peaux sèches se contenteront d'une seule fois par mois. Le Sauna Facial est carrément déconseillé pour les souffrants de couperions, psoriasis ou encore eczéma. Pourquoi ? Le Sauna Facial stimule le flux sanguin via la vapeur d'eau, un effet qu'il vaut mieux éviter pour ce genre de problèmes.

Essential oils in action

The Facial Sauna uses steam, of course, but its cleansing action can be combined with the purifying and soothing action of essential oils, depending on your skin concerns! There's nothing better for the skin than to be pampered in depth by the miraculous action of essential oils.

Tea Tree essential oil to purify and remove stubborn blemishes (ideal for acne). Grapefruit essential oil for its astringent action, ylang-ylang essential oil to soothe... There's an oil for every problem, but before using it, it's best to consult its dosage or ask your sales specialist for advice.

What about the steam bath?

Le Sauna facial a un certain coût, entre 30 et 130 euros pour les appareils les plus performants. Il s'agit d'un budget qu'on ne peut pas forcément toutes se permettre, le bain vapeur reste alors la solution la plus économe.

But be careful, as your face is placed over a container of boiling water. The steam bath has age-old virtues: it opens the pores to cleanse them, stimulates facial blood circulation (for a radiant complexion), prevents imperfections (blackheads and pimples), and optimally prepares the skin for skin care.

Note that it also has a positive effect on health, as it is commonly used to soothe or even eliminate a cold. The steam soothes the mucous membranes.

How to make a facial steam bath?

Ce qu'il nous faut pour ce sauna visage : une casserole, une serviette, des huiles essentielles et quelques herbes aromatiques. Avant le bain vapeur, vous pouvez procéder à un gommage doux du visage afin d'enlever les peaux mortes et préparer la peau et permettre le nettoyage en profondeur.

In the comfort of your own home, you prepare a liter of water boiled over a fire or in a kettle, and pour it into a pot or saucepan. Add essential oils (as seen above) or aromatic herbs such as lavender, thyme or rosemary...

As with the Facial Sauna, make sure your skin is sufficiently cleansed before proceeding with the facial steam bath. The mixture of oils and herbs is left to infuse for a while. Once the steam appears to be at the right temperature (it shouldn't be too hot, to avoid burns), you create an enclosed space between the pan and your face, using the towel to rest it on your head. Lean your face over the bowl (30 centimetres maximum) and enjoy this spa moment at home for around 20 minutes. As well as being good for the skin, the steam emanation with herbs and oils is also excellent for the respiratory tract.

Et après ? Une fois que le bain vapeur a joué son rôle purificateur, c'est le moment d'en profiter pour appliquer ses soins et permettre aux actifs de pénétrer en profondeur. On applique alors sa routine habituelle de soins cosmétiques. En premier lieu, on pose un masque si on sent que la peau en a besoin. On applique ensuite une pression d'eau florale pour tonifier la peau ! Puis on passe au sérum visage, sérum contour des yeux (indispensable pour prévenir ou enlever les cernes et poches), crème de jour voir même un sérum de croissance des cils ou des sourcils ! 

As with the Facial Sauna, the steam bath can be performed once or twice a week for oily to combination skin, but only once or twice a month for sensitive skin, and should be avoided for skin suffering from eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and other skin problems.
