Black cumin oil, a beauty booster for our hair

Black cumin oil, a beauty booster for our hair

Coralie Techer

Less well-known than its cousins coconut oil and castor oil, black cumin oil is no less effective in caring for our hair. Let's take a closer look at this underestimated natural treasure.

When it comes to beauty, natural plant oils and essential oils are our friends for life. Used since the dawn of time for skin, hair and nail care, natural oils are extracted from plants, roots, seeds (black cumin, sesame, grape seed...) or flowers.

What is black cumin vegetable oil?

Nigella oil, also known as black cumin, Venus hair or pepper, is originally a seed from an aromatic tree found in the Mediterranean region. Small but powerful, nigella seeds have been renowned in Eastern countries for thousands of years.

Legend has it that in ancient Egypt, it was even called the gold of the Pharaohs. It seems that healers of the time frequently used it to cure all kinds of ailments and preserve the health of important people. When it came to beauty, black cumin also had its reputation. Black cumin oil was in great demand among the ladies. Queen Nefertiti herself is said to have used it as her beauty ingredient of choice to bring out the radiance of her almost flawless complexion.

How is black cumin oil obtained?

Extracted from an oleaginous seed, black cumin oil is obtained by cold pressing. Once obtained, the oil is yellow/green to amber in color, with a high essential fatty acid content.

What are the benefits of black cumin oil for hair?

Si elle fait des miracles sur la peau, l'huile de nigelle est aussi excellente pour préserver la santé des cheveux et leur capital beauté. Les bienfaits de cette huile végétale sont légion :

  • Hair loss prevention
  • Helps hair regrowth (in particular, it helps accelerate the regrowth of hair that is sometimes slow)
  • Strengthens hair
  • Softens strands
  • Regulates sebum
  • Eliminates dandruff by caring for the scalp
  • Slows down the graying process
  • Adds shine and radiance
  • Protects hair fiber from external aggression

How can a single oil have so many benefits?

The composition of black cumin oil is quite extraordinary. Rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6, unsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants, natural essential oils, minerals and vitamins, it is a veritable cocktail that regenerates, purifies and stimulates the body. Black cumin oil nourishes deep down. When used on the scalp, it penetrates the superficial layer of the skin to nourish the hair bulb and provide all its benefits. This deep action also helps prevent the catastrophe of baldness and hair loss. This black gold is the ideal friend for those who want to restore their hair's vigour, shine and strength!

What are the benefits for the skin?

We can't talk about black cumin oil without mentioning its benefits for our skin. Applied to the skin, black cumin oil softens and nourishes the epidermis, providing it with a good dose of lipids (which limit water loss and thus hydration). It is highly effective for :

  • problem skin (acne, irritation, eczema, psoriasis)
  • dry skin (deep, intense hydration)
  • mature skin (anti-wrinkle, anti-aging).
  • Healing
  • softening
  • toning

How to use black cumin oil for beautiful hair?

We tell you everything you need to make the most of black cumin oil for your hair: recipes, precautions to take and good advice.

Black cumin oil is ideal for external use as a hair care product. But for greater effectiveness, it's best to combine this external use with an internal one! How can I use it? You can buy organic black cumin seeds in powder or capsule form as a dietary supplement in pharmacies or parapharmacy stores, to be taken as a course of treatment. You can also add a few drops to your dishes (as a spice), but take care not to use it on a daily basis. If this is the case, it should be used as a cure, for no more than 12 weeks. Ask your pharmacist for advice before use!

Recipes for a black cumin hair mask :

  • Oil bath: Ideal for dry, dull, or brittle hair, a black seed oil bath or soup is probably the simplest way to allow your hair to benefit from all the benefits of this miracle seed. Simply soak your hair in the oil, paying particular attention to the scalp. To allow the oil to penetrate deeply, massage it in circular motions with your fingertips for a few seconds. To distribute the oil throughout your hair, don't hesitate to style vigorously with a wide-toothed comb. For maximum effectiveness, leave it on overnight, wrapping your hair in a satin cap or a warm towel.
  • The effective hair regrowth mask: when coconut oil and black seed oil come together, it works miracles. Coconut oil to cleanse and black seed oil to nourish. This mask is ideal for boosting hair regrowth. Mix two tablespoons of black seed oil and two tablespoons of coconut oil. For even more effectiveness, mix in three drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil (excellent for shine and strengthening hair). Apply to dry hair and leave on for at least 30 minutes, but obviously the longer the better! Rinse with lukewarm water.

How often should these masks be applied?

Approximately once a month, or more often if necessary. Very damaged hair, for example, could benefit from a weekly treatment! A good treatment never hurts.

For even more beautiful hair, black cumin oil can be combined with a growth serum like ROSEGOLD's ROSEHAIR serum. Rich in biotin, it is specially designed to accelerate hair growth by acting naturally on the scalp.

Can black cumin oil be used to accelerate eyelash growth?

Since black cumin oil is so beneficial to hair (which is hair, just like our eyelashes), we have to wonder whether it's just as effective for regrowing and beautifying eyelashes! However, this natural oil is not specifically recommended for this purpose. For eyelash beauty, it's best to rely on castor oil or ROSEGOLD's ROSELASH serum, a special eyelash serum (Prix de la Beauté 2023) that also acts naturally and helps eyelashes grow.

What precautions should I take with black cumin oil?

It's a natural product, but black cumin oil does require a few precautions:

  • Black cumin oil should be avoided by pregnant women.
  • Be careful not to exceed the best-before date.
  • Avoid contact with mucous membranes.
  • If in doubt about its use, seek professional advice.
  • Be sure to choose an organic cold-pressed oil.
