What are the benefits of keratin for our hair?

What are the benefits of keratin for our hair?

Coralie Techer

Naturally present in hair, keratin protein is also a popular component of hair care! What exactly are its benefits? And in what form is it best used? We tell you all about it.

It's impossible to miss the craze surrounding keratin. This natural protein has been at the forefront of the beauty scene for some years now. Produced by the human body, keratin is one of the key constituents of phanera, which in other words means hair, nails and teeth! While the body produces keratin, our external environment unfortunately affects its density, and sometimes old age, pollution, external aggressions such as the use of heated appliances for hair, nail varnish for nails, or a poor diet for teeth, affect and deplete the body's natural keratin resources. In such cases, an external source of keratin becomes necessary, particularly to maintain healthy hair. Our mane is the one that suffers most from a lack of keratin.

The benefits of keratin for hair

Keratin acts as a cement for the hair fiber. It glues the hair scales back together. It is the scales that give the strands their smooth, shiny appearance, whatever the hair type. When the scales come loose due to external aggression, split ends appear, hair loses its shine and becomes brittle. So it's safe to say that keratin is essential to the well-being of our manes! Fortunately, there are several ways to remedy a lack of keratin. We can take action externally, through salon or home care protocols, or internally, by taking dietary supplements.

Soin cheveux à la kératine, les différentes options

If you decide to take the plunge and opt for keratin to care for your hair, you have several options. One is to apply your keratin-based treatments at home, and the other is to opt for a rigorous, in-depth protocol at an institute. In fact, both complement each other. It's highly recommended to start with an institute treatment. This will give the hair a huge boost, preparing the foundation for the new keratin-based home routine.

Keratin treatment at a salon

How is a keratin treatment performed in a hair salon, and what are the expected results? Keratin treatments are offered in most hair salons, and can be found in the institutes of big names such as Eugene Perma, Fabio Salsa and Myriam K. Sometimes dubbed a miracle treatment, it's easy to see why, since the (stunning) results can be seen as soon as the treatment is completed, and can last for weeks or even months.

Although each salon offers its own personalized keratin treatment, the aim of this shock protocol is to penetrate deep into the hair fiber to tighten the scales and reveal the beauty of damaged, dry and brittle hair. It structures, repairs, shapes and moisturizes. The result is the same everywhere. A treatment of this kind lasts around two hours and requires a small budget of around €150 (again, depending on the treatment stage and the salon). Since a deep keratin treatment lasts several months, the price is fair!

Keratin care at home

The good news is that there is a plethora of keratin-based hair care products that can be applied right from the bathroom! Most brands specializing in hair care have seized on this miracle protein and offer entire ranges on the subject. For really damaged hair, however, we recommend that you first apply a shock treatment at a salon to give your hair a new lease of life. The home routine is then applied as a follow-up, and promises to prolong the effects of the salon treatment. You can adopt the complete routine: shampoo, conditioner, conditioner, mask, styling spray, leave-in treatment or serum...

But if you have to choose, be sure to bring along the shampoo and mask for a weekly dose of keratin! Don't hesitate to complete your routine with natural treatments such as a bath in vegetable oils of Nigella, Coconut or Olive. The use of a hair growth serum is also an excellent complement to promote the healthy regrowth of your mane. At ROSEGOLD, you can even opt for the ROSEHAIR cure , which lasts up to six months!

Keratin as a dietary supplement

Another option is dietary supplements! This is another good way to supplement your keratin intake without (necessarily) having to go through the beauty routine. Note, however, that using dietary supplements in addition to a regular keratin beauty routine can only triple your chances of regaining beautiful, healthy hair. Say goodbye to dry, brittle hair! Food supplements should be taken as a course of treatment, and you should always follow the dosage indicated on the bottle of capsules, gummies or powder (whatever format you choose).

Whether at home or at a salon, in the form of cosmetic treatments or dietary supplements, note that keratin is beneficial for all hair types: straight, curly, wavy, frizzy or afros!
