Trend - How to lighten your eyebrows?
Coralie Techer
Eyebrows are a fashion statement! Sometimes ultra-thin, sometimes bushy... Lately we like them lightened or even bleached. How to adopt this trend at home? Follow the guide.
Eyebrows can be a real fashion and beauty statement. Long ignored, today they are an integral part of our style and it is not uncommon for major fashion designers to have fun with them. In recent seasons, models have often sported completely bleached eyebrows on the catwalks. This is what is called the "bleach brow" literally in French "bleached eyebrows", an extreme technique that is slightly different from lightening.
Why lighten your eyebrows?
Lightening your eyebrows softens dark eyebrows and therefore an overly assertive look. When you change your hair color, from jet black to warm brown for example, black eyebrows can be jarring. To bring harmony back to your face, it is better to lighten them by one or two tones, so that the result remains natural. In more extreme cases, you can go as far as bleaching. To stick to trends for example or simply assert your style! In 2013, pioneering personalities (Miley Cyrus, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga) had already tried it. Since then, Kim Kardashian and her half-sister Kendall Jenner have also tried it! This trend is hovering over the beauty sphere and 2023 could well be its moment. Will you give it a try?

Distinguishing Between Lightening and Bleaching Your Eyebrows
One is to correct an aesthetic aspect, the other is to assert one's style. Lightening eyebrows is not to be confused with bleaching them, which is much more extreme. Indeed, bleaching eyebrows consists (exactly as for hair) of lightening the hair up to 8 tones below! It is not a permanent technique, in general the natural color of the hair returns after one to two months. This technique is delicate because bleaching requires the use of products that can be harmful to the eyes. It is therefore strongly recommended to have it done in a beauty salon by a professional.
How to lighten your eyebrows naturally?
You have changed your hair color and now your eyebrows seem too dark? To reduce this demarcation you can resort to eyebrow lightening... naturally! Several homemade recipes are possible to achieve the desired result:
Lemon juice
Well known for lightening hairs, lemon juice works very well when it comes to lightening eyebrows by one or two tones. Note that this method is more effective in summer because the sun accelerates the bleaching effect of lemon on the hairs. Mix a dose of lemon with an equal dose of water in a small container, dip a cotton swab in it and brush it on your eyebrows. Be careful, lemon is very irritating to the eye, so be careful that the juice does not come into direct contact with your eye. Leave on for about 30 minutes then rinse with clear, lukewarm water using a glove, to avoid getting the lemon in your eye.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Just like with lemon, mix one part apple cider vinegar with an equal part water. Dip a cotton swab or cotton pad in it and dab it on your eyebrow hairs. Leave it on for a maximum of 20 minutes, as prolonged exposure to vinegar on your skin could lead to irritation.

Chamomile
This plant is definitely multi-purpose! Infused chamomile is said to be excellent for lightening eyebrows. Be careful here, it is not the infused water that will be used but rather the dried chamomile flowers softened by boiling water. Once the flowers are softened, we make a paste that we will leave on the eyebrows (make sure that the preparation cools before applying it to the skin). It will take about two hours of application under cellophane to see a satisfactory result.
Lighten your eyebrows using special products
This is another possibility. Lightening your eyebrows has become a real business for the beauty industry, so it is not uncommon to find ready-made kits to lighten your hair at home. If you choose to do this, be sure to follow the instructions to the letter to avoid any accidents. Bleaching products can be dangerous if used incorrectly. To be sure not to mess up, it is still better to call on a professional in a beauty salon. You can define with her the desired tone, the style and even choose to color your eyebrows differently.
The ephemeral technique of makeup
If you are hesitant or do not yet dare to take the step of chemical lightening, you can always turn to the solution of eyebrow makeup! This much more ephemeral technique can however do the trick on a special occasion, while waiting for your appointment at the institute, or to lighten a failed eyebrow tint . Several solutions are then available to you:
Makeup with eyebrow gel
Not all eyebrow gels are transparent. Some, in addition to fixing the hairs for a browlift effect, also allow you to color them! For a lightened look, choose a gel whose color will be one or two tones below your natural color.

Makeup with eyebrow pencil
This is probably the most popular technique, plus the eyebrow pencil is easy to use! Just like for the eyebrow gel, choose a pencil whose shade is one to two times lighter than your original color. You can also play on the trend by choosing a much lighter color!
Makeup with concealer
With this technique, it's all or nothing! You can apply a very light dose of concealer or even foundation to your eyebrows to lighten them. If you want to be original, you can completely blur your eyebrows by using more concealer or foundation. To play more on the contrast with your eyebrows, you can go all out on your eyelashes with an ultra-intense mascara and a special eyelash growth serum for long, XXL eyelashes!
Of course, all these techniques do not exclude taking care of your eyebrows! Even if they are lightened or bleached, think about eyebrow serum to keep your eyebrows strong, shiny and full!
