Everything you need to know for beautiful eyelashes

Everything you need to know for beautiful eyelashes

Coralie Techer

Do you dream of long, shiny lashes for hypnotic, sublime eyes? Here's how to give them the care they deserve.

Understanding the life cycle of eyelashes

First and foremost, we need to understand the life cycle of eyelashes. It's divided into three stages: the anagen stage (growth), the catagen stage (stagnation) and the final telogen stage (shedding).

  • Anagen stage: An eyelash lasts about three months. This is not a rule; in other people, this phase may last longer or shorter.
  • Catagen stage: During this phase, growth begins to slow and the lash is strong. Perfect for extensions, lash lifting or other treatments. It lasts about 3 weeks, but again, varies from person to person.
  • Telogen stage: This is the fall phase. The eyelash matures and falls out, making way for a new strand in the anagen phase. There are many possible explanations for eyelash loss: genetic factors, stress, lifestyle, hygiene, make-up, illness (e.g. chemotherapy) - in short, there are many factors that cause eyelashes to fall out.

We say no to waterproof mascara

Our eyelashes are important, and those pretty bangs that dress up our eyes need to be considered in our daily beauty routine. Eyelashes are one of our most striking physical features, giving an instant boost to our beauty routine, especially when we coat them with mascara. But it's important to choose the right mascara...

To avoid the notorious panda eyes (mascara that drips from sweat, water or tears), many people prefer to use waterproof mascara. We're really sorry to tell you... it's best avoided! Because it's so tenacious, waterproof mascara is hard to get rid of, so you're bound to rub it off when you remove your make-up, and that's the last thing you want to do. To avoid the carnage, we prefer lightly formulated mascaras that respect our lashes and eyes.

Nourish your lashes

Because they're fragile, eyelashes need extra attention. They need to be constantly nourished and moisturized with care products that will strengthen them and prevent them from falling out. There are a wide range of oils that can be safely applied to the lashes to strengthen, maintain and keep them healthy.

Castor oil: to strengthen them

Although a little oily, it is particularly effective (and recognized) for promoting eyelash and hair growth. This vegetable oil is packed with proteins, vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants that nourish hair follicles and prevent pollutants from inhibiting eyelash growth. It also helps other skin care products to be better absorbed by the skin, lashes or hair. Its high ricinoleic acid content brings oxygen and nutrients to the bulb.

You can apply it directly with your finger, or with a mascara brush.

Argan oil: for nourishment.

Recommended for both skin and hair, this oil of a thousand virtues is also highly beneficial for eyelashes. It contains vitamins such as E and C. It's a revitalizing treatment that boosts hair growth by penetrating deep into the skin. It prevents lashes from falling out. A doe-eyed effect, guaranteed!

Coconut oil: to enhance them

Given its many benefits, coconut oil is a star ingredient in the beauty world. From moisturizing and protecting skin and hair, to its antimicrobial and antifungal action, coconut oil also smells divine. Thanks to all its properties, it can help keep eyelashes healthy. Using it ensures fuller lashes that can withstand cosmetics and other lash-shaping tools.

Coconut oil contains fatty acids, mainly lauric acid, which are ideally absorbed by the hair. Perhaps this is why coconut oil seems to offer better hair fiber protection than other oils.

How do I use aloe vera to care for my eyelashes?

Aloe vera has been known since the dawn of time for its beneficial properties. Simply dipping your mascara brush in pure, organic aloe vera gel helps lengthen lashes naturally, thanks to the plant's vitamins and nutrients.

A good diet for beautiful lashes

Diet plays an important role in the beauty and strength of our eyelashes. We must opt for a balanced and varied diet, rich in fruit and vegetables, and avoid at all costs processed, unhealthy, high-fat and excessively sweet foods...

Fill up on vitamins, minerals and trace elements by eating fruit and vegetables. Eliminate unhealthy fats (lipids) in favor of good ones, such as olive oil, avocado, sardines (containing omega-3s, which protect cardiovascular health), mackerel, etc.

Food supplements to grow eyelashes

For perfectly long eyelashes, we recommend biotin supplementation in the form of food supplements. Biotin is recognized the world over for its hair-structuring virtues, but it's not the only one. By taking one capsule a day, you not only ensure optimal eyelash growth, but also prevent hair loss.
