How long do eyelash extensions last?

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Coralie Techer

Before embarking on the application of extensions, it's legitimate to ask the question. How long will they last before falling out? Here's a practical point.

Eyelash extensions are synthetic fibers that are glued to natural lashes to make them appear fuller, longer and more intense. Performed in an institute, this procedure replaces conventional false eyelashes, which are sometimes difficult to apply, and is more sophisticated than an eyelash enhancement.

Eyelash extensions are a more long-lasting solution, since they're supposed to last much longer and save a hell of a lot of time during the morning beauty routine. Where glue, magnet or magnetic false eyelashes only last for a day. This aesthetic technique is also a great way to enlarge your eyes, whether with Russian volume eyelash extensions (long, mega-volume lashes) or classic extensions (natural effect)...

How long do eyelash extensions last on average?

Every eyelash extension is different, depending on the person who wears and maintains them. But generally speaking, when you install eyelash extensions, you do so with the idea of keeping them for a while. Given the price and the time it takes to apply them, it's a good thing they don't fall out after the first week. Overall, eyelash extensions can last up to 3 weeks before the first synthetic lashes fall out. The aesthetician who performs the application will always recommend that you return at that point for a touch-up. It's important to know that a touch-up will fill in the missing lashes at a lower cost. If you wait until all the extensions have fallen out, you'll have to pay for a full application again. If you're looking for a 24-hour false lash effect, then you'd better take advantage of our touch-up offers!

Does the longevity of extensions depend on how they're installed?

The lifespan of extensions can also depend on how they are applied. That's why it's always best to make sure you have your eyelash extensions applied by a beauty salon renowned for the quality of its services. Let's not forget that the eyes are the most fragile organ in the human body. Eyelash extensions require the use of approved eyelash glue, and when this is not the case, damage can occur... It's best to avoid taking any risks. You can easily get an idea about an institute from the reviews posted online, otherwise in a salon, a diploma certifying training in extensions should be visible and displayed by the practitioner. Another little tip for a long-lasting application: choose eyelash extensions that are adapted to the shape of your eyes.

What are the techniques for making eyelash extensions last?

Although you can't make your extensions last indefinitely, there are a few tricks and techniques that can help them last a (tiny) bit longer to keep those perfect doe eyes. Note that eyelash extensions are glued to natural lashes, which have a life cycle and a regrowth cycle of around three months. When the natural eyelash to which the extension is glued falls out, so does the extension. So you'll never be able to make your eyelash extensions last longer than three months (which is already a long time).

Tips for keeping them as long as possible:

Avoid applying mascara; even if it's possible, it's better to do it occasionally (see: can mascara be applied to eyelash extensions?).

Washing your eyelash extensions may seem surprising, but it's one of the most important steps in ensuring their longevity. How do I do it? Use a small, clean, slightly dampened brush to gently wipe the extensions after removing all traces of make-up.

How do I care for my extensions?

Obviously, when you want something to last, you take care of it. The same goes for eyelash extensions. Don't think that, once they've been applied, you can let them live out their lives without paying any further attention to them. To keep them as long as possible, you have to pamper them, or at least pay attention to them.

How to make your extensions last:

- Gently brush your extensions with a clean brush, morning and night. This removes dust and other impurities that might otherwise cling to the extensions and cause them to fall out. Brushing also keeps lashes in good shape.

- Washing your extensions. When removing make-up or washing your face, pay special attention to your eyelash extensions by washing them gently with soap. Be careful never to apply oil to your extensions, as you risk losing them.

- Avoid rubbing your eyes. Easier said than done, rubbing your eyes should be avoided at all costs if you want your extensions to last as long as possible. No matter what type of extensions you have, they're not infallible and can be torn out by the slightest rubbing. If your sensitive eyes itch frequently, dab the area instead.

Note that it's a good idea to apply extensions between lashes, but avoid applying more than three in a row. In the meantime, give your natural lashes a chance to breathe and regenerate properly. For a little boost, you can always apply a lash growth serum
