Temperatures are plummeting and the effects on our well-being will soon be felt. How can we avoid chapped skin and a dull complexion? Here are our top tips for winter skin care. 

Moisturization, the essential step for beautiful skin  

Just like in summer. Hydrated skin is skin that lives well! In winter, we place particular emphasis on this beauty step, and never skip it. Moisturizing the skin means nourishing it, and nourishing it means ensuring it is strong enough to withstand and cope with external aggressions. The cold, lack of sunshine, pollution, wind and rain are all factors that can damage our skin. 

How do you moisturize your skin in winter? 

Nothing too complicated, but for deeply moisturized skin, it's best to stick to a regular beauty routine, spreading your favorite moisturizer generously morning and night. As for texture, it all depends on your needs and, above all, your skin type. Moisturizing can take the form of a milk, lotion, serum, oil or cream. Very dry skin will prefer a rich oil, while combination to oily skin will be happy with a simple body lotion and face serum. 

Hydration also involves diet

It's a fact! Beauty is also maintained from within. The skin's superficial hydration must be complemented by deep hydration through an appropriate diet. This means opting for foods composed mainly of water, such as fresh cheeses (Ricotta, fromage frais) or plant milks like almond or soy milk. And of course, don't skimp on water: drink at least 1L5 a day, even in winter! 

If water doesn't tempt you - and it may well do so - you can drink it as tea or infusion, or even ingest it via coffee. All in moderation, as excessive theine and caffeine can have the opposite effect of dehydrating you.

While moisturizing plays a major role in the well-being and beauty of our skin, daily skin care is also essential. They act as a beauty booster. It's important to create the right routine for you, one that's perfectly suited to your needs, such as: your skin type, your lifestyle, your hygiene, where you live... etc.!

Opt for plant care

Vegetable oils are the number one ally in our quest for beauty. They contain a host of benefits for keeping skin healthy, hydrated and nourished at all times. 

Rosehip, argan, jojoba, grapeseed oil, avocado and hazelnut are just some of the active ingredients our skin appreciates. But why? Each of them has a specific action on a particular skin problem.

  • avocado deeply nourishes the skin.
  • hemp oil soothes it 
  • argan oil softens

So it's important to target your needs before choosing your vegetable oil! Although none of them can really do us any harm.

Making masks... Regularly 

In these cooler times, the skin needs to be boosted and detoxified to get rid of the pollutant residues that sometimes embed themselves deep within the skin. A good green, pink or yellow clay mask (depending on individual skin needs) can be applied once a week. Follow up with ultra-moisturizing masks twice a week! An excellent complement to your daily skin care routine. 

Use scrubs adapted to your skin type  

In winter, skin feels tight. Of course, the idea of exfoliating isn't very appealing, but it's an essential part of your beauty routine. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and all the dirt accumulated over the course of a day. It also enables the skin to renew itself more easily and assimilate the treatments applied more rapidly. 

Attention, le gommage peut être très abrasive si il n'est pas correctement appliqué. On choisit toujours le grain de son gommage en fonction de son type de peau (les peaux sensibles à fragiles éviteront d'ailleurs les gommages à grains et préféreront un peel enzymatique). Pour le visage on préconise un gommage doux, à renouveler une fois  par semaine. Pour le corps, un gommage aux gros grains peut-être appliqué une fois toutes les deux semaines.
