Lisa Baptista, a meeting with the fairy godmother of French FX make-up

Lisa Baptista, a meeting with the fairy godmother of French FX make-up

Coralie Techer

lisa baptista - roseblog

With over a million followers on TikTok, Lisa Baptista is one of the most followed French make-up artists on social networks! Her love of make-up, her advice on how to get started, her beauty tips... Discover her portrait for ROSEBLOG.

ROSEBLOG - Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Where are you from and what do you do for a living?

Lisa Baptista - " My name is Lisa, I'm 23 years old. I've been working in makeup professionally for about four years now. At first, it was just a passion... then one morning I woke up and quite simply said to myself that it would be quite nice to turn my passion into my job! I got started like that, I followed two years of training in a makeup and beauty school that I absolutely loved. Today I have a self-employed status which allows me to work as a makeup artist for events, personalized services but which also allows me to ensure my status as an influencer on the networks where I share my FX makeup creations. My big dream is to end up working as a makeup artist in cinema. A series, a big Hollywood production... The dream!"

ROSEBLOG - How did your desire to become a make-up artist come about? Was it a dream come true or a life opportunity you seized?

Lisa Baptista - "Since I was little, I've been immersed in the creative world thanks to my father, who is an artist himself. He always told me that he could see me working as an artist! At school, I really enjoyed visual arts and drawing. I transferred that to makeup, which ended up becoming a real passion. When I'm doing makeup, I don't count the hours! I love it. I couldn't have done a normal job behind a desk all day..."

ROSEBLOG - Why did you choose to specialize in FX make-up?

Lisa Baptista - "When it comes to beauty make-up, I assume that once you've taken a course, anyone can do it! It's still basic make-up. I wanted to push my limits and do something different, to go further. On the networks, I've always followed a lot of American make-up artists. In the U.S., the art of FX is very widespread, and they inspired me and pushed me to take the plunge! I work on the principle of "who can do more, can do less". If I'm good at FX, then I'm bound to find it easy to go back to basic make-up!"

ROSEBLOG - How do you create makeup? What is your creative process?

Lisa Baptista - " When it's a character like Buzz Lightyear, I get my inspiration after seeing the movie. I make a little sketch with a pencil, and I go with my gut feeling! On the other hand, when I work with brands or I have a particular makeup look to prepare for work, then I focus more on the question. I pay attention to answering the smallest details requested."

ROSEBLOG - What inspires you about make-up in general?

Lisa Baptista - "Makeup calms me. I don't count my hours! Sometimes I can easily do a character's makeup in four hours, or I can also do it in seven or eight hours... without a break! It takes me an enormous amount of time, but I'm fully committed. I find it incredible that you can completely transform yourself thanks to makeup. Today I'm Lisa, but tomorrow I could very well be Jack Sparrow! This also applies to when I'm doing makeup for clients; the person might want more hollow cheeks, a straighter nose, and it's totally possible thanks to makeup. I love it."

ROSEBLOG - What advice would you give to those who would like to enter the profession?

Lisa Baptista - " My first (and most important) piece of advice is to believe in yourself. When I started in the makeup industry, people wanted me to believe that I wouldn't succeed, that it was a difficult field that required having a network that I didn't have. But I told myself "if I don't try, I'll never know!" So yes, today I'm still not a movie makeup artist, I still have goals to achieve but I'm getting there little by little. And if I had listened to those who tried to discourage me, I wouldn't be here. So I strongly advise you to believe in yourself, not to give up (it's a complicated job) and to give everything to succeed! With determination and passion, you can always get there."

ROSEBLOG - Social networks have played a part in your success. Can you say that they are a real springboard for today's artists?

Lisa Baptista - " Totally. Social media is a great and good alternative for artists who want to make themselves known and who don't necessarily have a full address book when they start out. Today, social media allows me to create a lot of connections, I'm making myself known that way! I didn't have any network when I started, TikTok or Instagram allow you to build a career. However, you always have to be careful, there are limits to social media. The notoriety linked to networks brings negative sides, but you have to know how to stay true to yourself."

ROSEBLOG - What's your makeup removal ritual after an FX shoot? Your favorite skincare product?

Lisa Baptista - " When I have time, I do things properly with a makeup remover and a facial cleanser. When I have less time, I smear my face with coconut oil and take it all off in the shower! Coconut oil is radical for cleaning your skin as best as possible, and it's also natural. I finish with a soap wash (or basic facial cleanser) to remove the greasy residue from the oil on my skin. Other than that, I don't have any favorite skincare rituals or treatments... I wouldn't make a good beauty consultant! I'm lucky to have good skin, I just always make sure to clean it thoroughly before going to bed."

ROSEBLOG - Can you tell us about your aspirations for the future?

Lisa Baptista - " Working in film, creating collections with major makeup brands like Benefit and Becca. But most of all, launching my own makeup brand. Making people happy with ranges dedicated to artistic makeup... I would love that!"
