Although it’s becoming increasingly trendy to keep your hair natural, there’s no rule against indulging every now and then in the pleasure of sleek, perfectly blow-dried hair. While a blowout is a treat you usually get at the salon, you can also do it at home with the right tools and technique. Like anything else, you won’t master it on your first try, but with a little practice, you’ll probably never want to go without it again! Whether straight or curly, blowouts will hold no secrets for you.

At the salon, stylists can offer you a wide variety of styles for your blowout. At home, it’s already a win just to master the basics: a straight blowout and a curly one, just to mix things up. Naturally, those with straight hair dream of mastering the curly blowout, while those with curly locks sometimes dream of sporting a sleek mane. There’s no rule against treating yourself to a new look!

Here’s a handy tip: for best results, remember that blow-drying is always done on wet hair, and it works even better after shampooing and applying a hair mask. Softened hair will take the blow-dry style more easily. 

Le brushing bouclé pour cheveux lisses

Le brushing bouclé est probablement le plus technique. Il demande une certaine dextérité et un bon coup de main ! Pour boucler ses cheveux, ce qu'il faut priorisé ce sont les accessoires. Veillez à choisir la bonne brosse, le bon sèche-cheveux, ajouter à cela l'utilisation de plaques lissantes ou carrément du fer à friser. Enfin, misez tout sur les bons produits pour parfaire tout ça. Des cheveux en pleine santé sont forcément plus beaux et tiennent mieux les brushings. Le brushing bouclé peut avoir du mal à tenir sur les cheveux très lisses et fins, si c'est votre cas, n'hésitez pas à faciliter le coiffage en posant des bigoudis !

Although it can be time-consuming (especially for curly hair), blow-drying curly hair to achieve a straight look is actually quite easy. Where it requires special attention is in hair care. Curly hair is delicate, so to preserve the natural shape of the curls, be sure to protect your hair as much as possible from the heat of the blow-dryer by always applying a heat-protective product before styling.

Quels accessoires choisir pour réussir son brushing ? 

Pour un brushing réussi, rien ne vaut les bons accessoires ! À la maison, on s'équipe (presque) comme un professionnel avec : 

- A good hair dryer. Make sure it has several heat settings and a cool setting. The cool air not only leaves your hair shiny but also helps close the cuticles of the hair shaft and reduce breakage.

- One or more round brushes, suited to your hair type. A small one for fine, short hair, and a large one for thick, long hair! A round brush works just as well for straight blowouts as it does for curly ones.

- Straightening irons, to perfectly straighten every strand of hair or to create a beautiful wavy look on straight hair.  

- Clips, like the ones used at the salon. They help you section off the hair strand by strand and work on one section at a time for perfectly even blow-drying and a beautiful style. 

- A curling iron, which can be used in addition to a curling blowout to perfect the small strands that the brush might have missed. This ensures a beautiful, voluminous blowout.

- A hot air brush: for ultra-fast styling—whether you want straight or curly hair—nothing beats a hot air brush! Use it on damp hair, just like a hair dryer. With its rotating motion, the brush curls or straightens strands while drying them and adding maximum volume.

Les bons gestes à appliquer pour un brushing réussi

Sur cheveux courts comme sur cheveux longs, pour réussir son brushing à la maison, il faut en plus d'avoir les bons accessoires, appliquer les bons gestes. Pour commencer, procédez par étapes. Pour un brushing parfait, accordez-vous du temps. Il ne se fait pas en cinq minutes. Prévoyez donc une tranche horaire large (un dimanche après-midi par exemple) pour pouvoir recommencer si besoin. C'est votre moment cocoon, profitez-en ! 

Qu'il s'agisse du brushing lisse ou bouclé, le brushing s'applique toujours sur cheveux propres et mouillés. La case soin (masque, après shampoing) et shampoing est donc conseillée pour préparer les cheveux, les rendre plus souples et les fortifier avant leur modification. Veillez à utiliser des soins dédiés à votre type de cheveux, ils n'en seront que plus beaux. 

After your shampoo and conditioning session, gently dry your hair from root to tip using a microfiber towel. Remember, you should pat your hair dry—not rub it! Rubbing weakens the hair shaft and causes frizz... So, let’s avoid that. 

Les soins à appliquer pour protéger ses cheveux avant un brushing

Before getting down to business, protect your hair with a heat-protective cream, lotion, or spray. This product will create a barrier around the hair shaft to prevent heat from penetrating the cuticle and causing deep damage to the strands. 

On passe maintenant au coiffage, munie de son sèche-cheveux (ou de sa brosse soufflante), de sa brosse et de ses pinces on applique le brushing voulu ! La grosse brosse ronde pour des boucles souples sur cheveux longs et épais, la petite brosse fine sur cheveux courts pour des cheveux lisses et lustrés. Il faut parfois s'armer de patience, mais avec de l'envie et de la pugnacité, un brushing maison peut vraiment être parfait. Pour éviter les cheveux secs et les garder en bonne santé, n'oubliez pas d'appliquer une huile de soin ou un sérum cheveux sur le cuir chevelu pour prendre encore plus soin de votre crinière.
